Pennzoil. Probably the cheapest, and easiest to get. Walmart has it. It will not void warranties either.

    Chris,

Is that Penzoil a full synthetic or a blend?

    Thanks,

    Gary,
I started to use AmsOil in my 2 stroke 75 hp Merc 2 years ago. I’d say the smoke has been cut almost in half. Also, I can troll for hours and hours and never have even a slight hesitation when I crack the throttle. Starting and idling are also great. It would be an understatement to say that I’m impressed.

    So;

    Switching from organic to synthetic……..

Does that require a full flush of the existing organic from the tank and reserve before dumping in synthetic???

If you switch run the petroleum oil down as low as possbile. They do however mix. This from the mfg. I have switched oil on many motors with no prob. I have run regular Amsoil in my boat for 4 years now and runs like new. I’m a believer. I have used it in all my sleds for years and every 2-stroke motor I own.

Amsoil can be had at some auto parts stores (Bumper to Bumper I know carries it at some stores) and directly through local reps. I’m sure if you can’t find it in a store near you someone here could give you the name of a local rep.

You can also check out https://www.amsoil.com

I too have used Amsoil for a few years now. I have not had any trouble with it but I also can’t say that I have had any specific benefits from it. I switched because I have an outboard that smokes more than I like but I have only seen a slight reduction in the smoke. I have puchased Amsoil from Mills Fleet Farm here in Winona.

It is a pure synthetic. It comes in gallon jugs.

I was just at Walmart and the Penzoil was a synthetic blend.Anyone Know how much Amsoil is a gallon?I have run Yamalube in a 1994 115 Yamaha for 10 years and no problems but $22 a gallon stings a little.Im guessing Amsoil is about the same price.

I will check what I was buying. I was positive it was a pure synthetic. I was wrong once before, so who knows? At least I won’t have to pay child support for this one.

The reason I asked was to make sure we were talking about the same product. Just an fyi, Manards also has the Penzoil blend for less than $10 a gallon.

Something to remeber about amsoil though and it saved me by knowing is that it can coagulate and plug up injectors. It happened to my cusins motor leaving it blown up and I the next year was pouring in some amsoil and saw some small chunks to find out that it was coagulated as well. It does have a lot to do with the age but we as consumers don’t know how old some of this stuff is. I pulled out my resevoir, which was a pain, and drained and cleaned out the chunks, but did not blow up. Just watch as you pour and I would say that it would be a good idea with all oils.

Interesting comment on the chunks. I saw this once 2 years ago. Noticed it when finishing off a gallon. Have not seen it since so I hope this is not a major issue. I guess I better check the resovoir.

I would definatly check and actually pull out the resevoir to clean. Even if the chunks were gone it will be worth knowing. Amsoil has a base that is totaly different than any other oils. It in turn shows some great qualitys but also has the possibility of coagulating. We did speek with amsoil and my take was that they could have showed much better customer service especially with the fact that they new their was some of that coaglating oil out there. The guy that blew up still runs it though but really pays attention to his pours. Personaly they lost me on the service end. Not telling anyone to stay away just my opinion. I guess I just put alot of stock into how a company stands behind issues that will come up, ” nobodys perfect” and I understand these things. I will also say that everybody else could have had great customer service and thats great, I’m not bashing, hopefully everyone pays attention to all oils that get poured into our exspensive toys.

Amsoil is about 23 bucks a gallon. I used ot be a dealer, but let it expire. I runs about the same as the brand name oil I was supposed to use in my Ficht 75hp. I use about half as much, no smoke, and can troll all day and then hammer the throttle and take right off.

Just my opinion but Amsoil all the way. I personnally would never use anything else. And no I am not a dealer or anything else. I use Amsoil in every two cycle I own. My last chainsaw lasted 23 years running amsoil and it finally died ignition module and can not buy a new or used one. And our old farmhouse, we burned 20 honest cords a year. That is a bunch of wood to cut. Thank g-d for the new house, and LP. Our Stihl trimmer is going on 17 years and still starts like new and it has been through h-ll clearing fences on the farm and such. It has never seen a repair shop.

    Just My Two Cents.

Yes, its injected. As far as premix goes, I would still use the amsoil. Just have to use the stuff thats for “pre-mix” As sated, I use the “injector” formula.

I also use amsoil synthetic in my cars. I have a 98 f150 with 154k and change…runs like a top.

Is there a chance that if you have Amsoil left in the oil tanks at the end of the season, it could coagulate?

I was at crystal peirz and they told me they had a couple motors blow up that people ran amzoil in and they told me it would void the warranty

Amsoil will not cause the motor to blow up. Read the product label. It meets or exceeds all required specifications. (TCW3 etc…) I been using their motor oil for over 10 years. Had MANY people tell me the same thing about that yet they could not show me an engine that had “blown up” while using it. People are affraid of change, thats why they make these statements. I believe amsoil has their own warranty for “oil related failures”. I know they do for motor oil. And just so your aware..that “quicksilver” crap your merc dealer tells you you HAVE to use..its made by the same people who make lubramatic.
