I just wanted to thank Dean at Everts for trying to help us out with some trolling motor issues Sat morning. We thought we had a bad foot control and Dean let us borrow his.
I was out with Fireman1217 and the Walleye-Brat in Fireman’s Pro-V he has a power drive Minnkota on the bow. The problem we had was that his foot control would only turn the motor to the right so we went back to ask if anyone had one we could borrow…Dean to the rescue.

    Now comes the crazy part….
We plugged in Dean’s foot control and I tried turning it to the left and it worked so we should be all set…NO….the borrowed foot control ONLY turned left, Firemans only turned right…..someone explain that to me. I took Dean’s up and tried it on his boat…turned both ways fine.

So any of you out there Sat morning that saw some guy in the front of a Pro-V turning the powerdrive trolling motor by hand wondering what is this goof doin ….that was me making the most of the situation…we even managed a couple fish.

I wonder if the CoPilot would have worked for you in that situation, might be a nice back up to have.

I don’t think so…for intermittent use does that work??
I was only using it for minor adjustments.

I had that same problem once. Come to find out, I wasn’t getting enough power to the motor. I found a coroded contact on the battery, and in the front panel. Cleaned them up, and never had the problem again.

My old Minnkota used to do that from time to time. I would give the controller a quick dip into the crystal clear waters of the Mississippi and it would work fine for a few weeks. Eventually it would start to act up again.

I concur with the battery problems. I had an on-board that burned out and until I could get a new one, I would switch out the batteries. If I was lazy and decided not to change them that is exactly how the motor would run. Hope this helps.

problem is that it is a powerdrive! i don’t have that problem with my maxxum. i had a powerdrive and had that problem, seems it did it when the battery was low on charge or what jld2 said. it also deployed at WOT, that was the end of that one. replaced it with a maxxum 50lb. i put a new cable drive maxxum 101lb on my new boat. the maxxum turns instantly when you step on the foot control, the powerdrive turns way to slow…..tom f

Yeah I have a Maxxum on my Ranger I had used the powerdrive on previous boats and with others and never experienced that problem. Talk about frustrating….we only had a few hours to fish and then to have a goofy problem like that.
I will pass that info along to Fireman incase he doesn’t see this post.
    Thanks for the info guys!!!!

Thanks for the info…I’ll check the connections tonight. The batteries were fully charged, so it wasn’t a case of low batteries. Was a great time fishing with Buckshot, although it was too short…Thanks for taking me down there and showing me a few things. Did you still want to trade boats???

You know…I slept on it and ….well I decided to stick with mine.

It was a great time and I agree definitely way TOO short…it was good when we left when we did…the Brat and I walked into Buffalo Wilds Wings just as they were dropping the puck in the Gopher game so we didn’t miss a thing.

Frozen Four here we come……Go Gophers!!!!
