There is a great article by Dennis Anderson in today’s Minneapolis StarTribune regarding the “Ducks, Wetlands and Clean Water Rally”. It can be viewed online at http://www.startribune.com. Dennis is the driving force behind this rally and has written several articles since last year. This is the time for all of us outdoor types to show the legislature how much we value our natural resources. Wetlands are nature’s pollution filters and rain water/ snow melt catch basins, reducing the severity of floods. I know I’m tired of my favorite lakes turning green in the summer and seeing a fraction of the ducks and pheasants in the fall I used to see just 10 years ago! The Straight River, which runs through Owatonna, hardly has any fish in it anymore. This is where I learned to fish and swim as a child. I was very disappointed when I took my son to my old “honey holes” to catch “plentiful” pike, crappies and rock bass and didn’t catch a thing. I’m tired of family, friends and coworkers suffering from cancer! There are too many chemicals in the environment. Hunter, fisherperson, canoeist, bird watcher, camper or hiker, Please support the environment by showing up for the rally on April 2 at the Minnesota State Capital. You don’t have to say a word to anyone, it’s just as important to just be there. It would be awesome to have a very large gathering for all the media to see! See http://www.wetlandsrally.org for more information and to print a poster.
