Has anyone heard anything about what type of store is going into the old Walmart building? The rumors I heard are a little hard to believe. I’ll post that rumor after I see a few responses.

More than likely nothing..WalMart will keep the store vacant for 3 years to keep competition out. I know it doesn’t make sence but it is there practice. 3 examples Tomah, Sparta and now LaCrosse.

Bret, it was my understanding WalMart doesn’t own the La X building. It is listed for sale. Not sure why it would be listed for sale if they intend to keep it empty for 3 years.

I can tell you they leased the buildings in Sparta and Tomah for a extra 3 years to keep competition out. That does not make sence to me. Even with the building listed for sale, this is year 1 it has stayed vacant.

All Wal-Mart stores are leased, not owned You would think a company that big would own the buildings but they don’t. Anyway, the Wal-Mart stores must continue to pay the lease on the buildings until someone else either buys or leases the old buildings.

The one in Prairie du Chien sat vacant for at least three years after they opened the super center, in the meantime having a for sale/lease sign up on it. It is now a Tractor Supply store. Wal-Marts suck, they kill small town business. With that said, they make it so easy for 1-stop shopping.

I totaly agree. That is there intention. They take the local business dude who has always answered questions and had what you need on hand and run him out. Now you have a store full of crap and still can’t find what you are looking for. As far as asking for help or answers to solve a problem…good luck.

I just thought they use the old buildings as a warehouse for the new one. I think you’re all right though, they keep them vacant to keep out competition.

The one in Baxter MN is going to be a Gander Mountian. Just about across from Reeds.

The Hooters Supercenter is by far the best idea I’ve heard. What I had originally heard was that Bass Pro was looking at it. Needless to say someone is wishfull thinking on that.

Hey duck, im glad you feel that way, thats the same way i feel too. They have put alot of businesses out of business. These big chain stores have created an awful lot of problems. About the only thing i go to one for is the batteries for my boat. They haven’t got anything for tackle selection. It would be nice too see those mom and pop places come back just for the service and pleasure of being in one again.
