How many of you abandon the river and hit your favorite lake? I am thinking of forgeting the crowded lakes this year and fishing on Pool 4, any one else going to be there?

    Are there lakes around here?

95% of my time on the water is spend on the Croix or the ‘sippi. I hit Winnie a couple three times and a couple other lakes a couple times…

Bigger fish…strange fish…what more can a guy ask for?

I honestly cannot remember since we are able to fish it all year the opener is no big deal.

I usually fish Pool 4 or 5 on opener since the local lakes are usually crowded. Though last year I saw quite a few more fishing boats out on lower Pool 4 than the previous 3 weeks.

I can’t recall the last time I went to a lake. The hustle and bustle of the lake scene is fun but I like the river and the fishing’s still pretty hot on pool 4. Give it a try….. Kurt

I am with slop…whats “opener”? I fish the river all year. When it gets too high and muddy, that must mean it time to go trout fishing or morel shroom hunting.

Ahhh yes, the “opener”. I remember it now.
Guess I forgot all about it though when they went to “twist tops”.

Jeez, am I the only lake guy on this forum? Some of you guys have been turning my head towards this river fishing but there is still something special about opener. It’s like deer or pheasant opener.

Well I went on the river last year, although its open all year round. I may go to Elk Lake this year.

I’ll be on the croix, chasing Brian K around. Last year on the “Lake Opener” the croix was nice a quiet. Not many big cruisers out yet.

I love fishing the lakes ’cause they are sooo much closer and have great fishing. Though I’d probably fish the Miss. more if I was closer due to the huge amount of water available from one launch of the boat.

It’s just opening weekend has so many people out fishing the local lakes that normally don’t come out much the rest of the year. You guys living near the Miss. are spoiled with such a great body of water for fishing!!!
