Hi all, been enjoying your posts the last few evenings. Couldn’t help but notice there is little info or conversation re: to pool 8.

My wife and I just bought a boat and are just learning the Miss. river. Our closest pool is 8 at approx. 50 miles from home. 7 and 9 are approx. 80 minutes from home.

Was wondering if anyone could offer input as to which pools of the three would be best to focus on for walleye, sauger and occasional bass. (Not to fussy on species, just like to catch fish. Rarely keep anything anyway)

Is pool 8 a good fish or shall I focus on 7 or 9. Or are pool 8 fisherman so busy catching fish they have no time to post. (Please dont tell me they cant read or write!)

Thanks to all you guys and your posts, my wife made me order about $80.00 worth of ringworms. I suppose they dont work in pool 8 either.

I would like to focus on just one pool and learn it as good as I can before trying others, but want to make sure I choose the best pool overall. Thanks guys for all your help…….Murf

    Welcome Murfeyes,

Don’t worry about those ringworms working. They will work in any body of water. Just the other day a buddy of mine dropped one in a puddle in his driveway and pulled a 3 lb. eye out of it.

Hope you and the wife enjoy the site.

Welcome aboard! I am kinda new here myself. BUT, I have fished pool 8. I fish 9 mostly, but might be able to help you out a little. I hope you can get on the river often.

Right now the big concetration is on Walleyes that are stacking up pre-spawn. Most people congrgate below the Lock and Dam but fish can be found holding below many wing dams and other structure further downstream from the dam if you wanna get away from the ‘bumper boats’ on the weekend.

As for the ringworms..I am sure they will work here as well. I am going to ‘test’ some this weekend. I’ll let you know.

    Wlcome to IDA Murfeyes,
I spend alot of time on pool 8, not that this make me a pro. Walleyes and saugers are in groups along the main channel as of last Sunday. I have been dragging Super doos and Ringworms. There are alot of boat up to the dam cathching dinks. I have found the nicer fish down from the dam in 20-25FOW. Under> Forums, WI, Mississippi river, Walleyes, Dresbach report, you will find more info.

    See you on the water!!!

Murf–I fish pool ate, I reed jest fine two, the prblom I have is peeple don’t always speel there wods rite.–anyway nice to have ya here. Pool 8 has got everything ya would want. The best place to start would be learn the wingdams, you will catch any and all kinds of fish on them. Then you could branch out from there. Most of the time if you anchor on the upstream side and throw a crawler, leech, willowcat for live bait, you will catch fish. While you have one of them sitting on the bottom, could cast a crank or plastic to front of dam and catch fish also. Good luck-John

Dan,I may be exaggerating a little, but not much! I think it was $65.00…and there were a few jigs, afew other tails and superdoos in the mix. She has to have EVERY color. We fish Canada as often as we can so it gets to be a twofold purchase. 25 years this Sept.with that women, and I still can,t outfish her.
I bought her a new fishin’ boat a couple of weeks ago so am anxious to get ‘er out.

Steve, I seem to have lost my 1st attemted post to you , any way I will try again.

I looked up your profile and you seem to be a clone to me. Hunt , Fish, Pointer named “Abby”. Only difference is my “Abby” is an English Setter, G.S. and E.S. are both great breeds IMO. Always looking for new expieriences if you would like a partner some day on pheasants, I’d be thrilled. I dont have many areas to hunt anymore. None of my local buds bird hunt, every other kinda huntin’ but not upland. Iowa kinda dried up on me the last 10 years. I give the bird doggin’ a break for a couple of years and just getting back in to it. Abby is 9 months old and showing tons of promise. Shes had roughly 30 birds (planted quail and pheasant)shot over her during training a little. Shes retrieved all birds knocked down so far and loves to retrieve,(so far). I hope that continues. I am being very careful with that, not overdoing her short fetch sessions.

Wouldnt mind seeing pool 4 sometime if you have an open seat in your boat sometime, or we can use mine, we could talk huntin’ , fishin’ and pointers. My wife doesnt like cold, or even cool weather fishing, so spring and fall fishing I am more open to going it alone or with a bud. Drop me an email if you want to get together sometime…….Murf
