I had it happen once. It was my space bar stuck down! Maybe see if any of your keyboard is stuck?

I guess I would first check for spyware. You can go to download.com and do a search for spyware removal tools and it should detect and get rid of a majority of them. If you can, upgrade your browser as well…I’ve seen older versions (IE version 5.5) cause problems like this.

I run the free version of Adaware which just expired and now they want me to buy it. I also have Norton and I probably need to get newer version. I have heard that it is better to go out and buy Norton in the store rather than download it off the net, something about its more complete that way???????? Anyone ever head of this??????

Not sure what a optical mouse is?

I have had this happen when scrolling a page, and it ends up with a cirle with a mark in it where the curser would be–all I have to do is click my mouse and it goes back to normal. Hope this may be the problem. Good luck!

Steve a couple things that were touch on already…

Do you have a regular mouse or a track ball or the optial mouse (which doesn’t need a wire run to it)….
If you have a regular mouse, it’s likely not that.

Turn your key board upside down and use a reversed vacum cleaner or air compressor on the keys…more under the keys. I had a hair (yes one hair) that did the same thing when I pressed the “1” key…

Back to the mouse again. Do you have a wheel on your mouse for scrolling or more than two buttons?

Hope some of the is either helps you or gets you on the way.

Ok I just might have this figured out, maybe I have a Scroll Lock key on my keyboard it has a light to indicate when it is on I turned it on and the problem stopped but then started again. I played with it some more and now I can have the Scroll Lock key on or off and so far so good, no scrolling screen by itself. I will try Brian’s suggestion and clean the keyboard also. As you can see from the pic I do not have an optical mouse but it does have the third button in the middle to click on the scrolling arrow, that is not the problem.

If you flip the mouse over, if it has a ball rolling around, it is not an optical mouse. The optical mouse has no ball, just a little eye and a light. My optical mouse jumps around once in a while. Has something to do with different colors on my mouse pad.

An optical mouse uses a red LED that shines on the surface underneath and can detect movement by the varying reflections as you move it across a surface. It removes the problem of having crud build up on the two sensor wheels inside of a regular mouse. ( Note so if your mouse starts to not move right, cleaning time)
Anyway. My pointer with the optical mouse will start creeping along on its own across the screen. I found out nice shiney surfaces such as polished desk tops annoy it to no end. If your scroll lock is on and you have the same type set up, oops Look ma, no hands.

Only works on XP and 2000. Microsoft was nice enough to remove the support Giant gave to earlier Windows versions.

Steve, as for the download vs buy the cd, I would buy the cd because if you need to ever redownload it its easy as you have the cd. Easier to run the cd to fix somethings too if needed.
    Thanks, Bill
