Trolling down question

Looking for advice. I’m considering buying a 1650 Lund Rebel with either a 25HP 4-Stroke Honda or a 30HP 4-stroke Mercury With EFI. Trying to determine which motor would troll down better. I was told by one dealer to look at the cylinder displacement (cc or cu in.) under the motors specifications to determine which motors will troll down better. The dealer said the lower the cylinder displacement the better it will troll down. Should I also consider a 2-stroke for trolling?. Any thoughts?

I have a 50 hp EFI 4 stroke mercury, and I wish it would troll down a little more. It pulls crankbaits pretty well, even a little fast, but is too fast for what I like when we occasionally use live bait. I still would rather have this than the 2 stroke I had previously, as it ran about the same speed and left a smokescreen trail.

I have a 1440 Rebel with a Yamaha 4 stroke 40hp on it. It trolls great but I guess it depends on how slow you want to go. I started with a 25 on this boat and it just didn’t have the power to push me like I wanted to I went for max rating hp. I use a Minnkota 55# electric for additional control and movement. I’d go for a 4 stroke, no matter what, if the additional $ are in your budget.

I’d go with a two stroke and take the money you save and buy a trolling motor.

If your getting a tiller boat, consider a Yamaha 4 stroke. They offer a switch that decreases the motor’s RPM’s.

I had a Lund Rebel SS with a 40 merc 4strk. On a calm day I could troll down to 1.4 mph on the gps. Depending on where you are going to be fishing most often, I would maximize the hp, and go with a 4strk. I loved mine, and will buy another one..
    Just my 2 cents.
