I am wondering if anybody has fished as a non-boater on this tour? I have been thinking about getting in a few, but would like to hear from someone who has been there I cannot find any info on the non-boater on their website, unless I missed it somehow I would like to fish the WI side. Also, does the co-angler have to bring their own fishing gear? Thanks.

You will be paired with a boater or “pro”.You will use thier stuff.I’m sure it would be great learning tool for the novice walleye angler.
Hell I seen that Mike Gofron was fishing a bass tourney as a non-boater this week..

    AmWatson,
I fished three of the four Tour events last year on the FLW Walleye tour. (Illinois River, Devils Lake, ND and Lake Oahe, SD)
It was a great learning experience. If you go into it with the intention of learning everything you can from the pro’s, then it can be a great experience for both you and the pro. If you go into it with the idea that your going to win alot of money, then I don’t thing anyone is going to be real happy if you don’t actually win some.
When you get to these tournaments, it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing. They still hold the tournament. They may cancel a day due to winds but for the most part, plan of fishing despite rain, cold or high, dirty water.
I was fortunate enough to pre-fish with Scott Steil at Devils Lake and Lake Oahe. That was a great time in itself. Excellent fisherman and great guy to fish with. Treated me just like anybody else.
I also pre-fished with Joe Wilson on the Illinois river. We got stuck with some really bad conditions. River rose 8 feet the first two days we were there and it was as dirty as any I’ve ever seen. Needless to say, fishing sucked! In no way, shape or form to I blame this on Joe. He was trying to do whatever he could to figure out something that would work. Many other pro’s were in the same boat and the first two days of the tournament proved that the majority of the field was having a tough time even catching one fish much less a limit.
You need to be prepared to go and fish thru any or all of the many different conditions that could pop up at the time of the tournament.
Keep a good outlook and hope for the best. It is a worth while endeavor and you will learn a great deal from the pro’s.

    AmWatson,
Here is the link for the 2005 Wal-Mart Walleye League Schedule. I fished these last year as a co-angler and had a blast and I am fishing them again this year. I would highly recommend these tournaments to anyone. If you have anymore questions feel free to give me a shout

Thanks for the link Steve After looking through everything there, I found some of the answers to the earlier questions. But, it also brings up new questions. I see there is a Walleye League and a Walleye Tour. The biggest difference I seen is the entry fee costs. Is one any better than the other? All the waters that are fished in the league are unfamiliar to me, heck I haven’t even been anywhere near them, ever I am not worried about the conditions on the days of the tourneys, I am far from a fair weather fisherman. I guess that is why I choose to fish for eyes and not bass

If you can afford to fish the Tour I would go for it. You will have a chance to fish with some of the big name Pros, but if you can not afford the Tour the League is a great way to go Also if you would by chance finish it the top 5 on the Co-Angler side of the League you will qualify for the Tour Championship.

I have also seen some bigger Pros fish the Leaque also so its a great experince if you decide to do it. I attended all the weigh ins 2 years ago that my son Nate fished as a Pro. You will enjoy it.
    Thanks, Bill

Whiskey, I’ve replied to your pm. Give me a hollar if you’d like to hear more about the details regarding sign up. FLW’s website spells things out fairly clearly so I think you’ll have a better understanding after spending some time reading the rules and regs. Later, Kurt
