In five to six week the Roger Budny clan will be blessed with its first grand child.

Matt, known here as THFlounder, like me is an avid fisherman. My daughter-in-law is every man’s dream daughter-in-law.

Bri is beautiful, intelligent, works with children and she like my bride Berni, they let us go fishing once and a while.
Recently Berni and I held a baby shower for the new parents and Bri came up with the wonderful idea to request attendees bring a copy of thier favorite childhood book for baby’s collection. Well I couldn’t remember mine, so I thought I would look for one dealing with a Grandfather and his Grandchild fishing together and sharing the joys and beauty in the experience. I should add that I gave the baby its first rod and reel as a shower gift. Long story short I haven’t had any luck finding one. So I thought I would ask my fellows here at the best outdoors website I know if they knew of anything along this line. Having been around this site from the begining I know a lot of us have masculine soft spots for thing like this and really care that our children and their children learn the right things about nature and its beauty. With that thought in mind, I am hopeful my friends can help me out. I have thought of writing it a letter about one of the most memorable days in my life, the day Matt caught his first fish, but for know that can wait. So if you can help please do.

    A soon to behappy Grandpa

Here is somthing my sister in-law and a friend came up with that may fill that soft void and help you exspress what you feel to the little one. If not for you your wife or Daughter in-law.

I got to say that some of my most memorable experences have been watching my 2 oldest(5 and 7 year old) children catch there first fish. I still have a 1 year old to go. but reading this post made me get me excited about seeing a grandchild reel in there first fish(i’ll tell you a real tearjerker). So iguess wht i really need to know what is it your looking for a rod and real for the little one or a book? the rod and reel is easy there every where but the book i’ll have to do some researsh on but i’ve seen them and kind of know were to look, and for this kind of cause I would be pleased to help out. There is truely no better experience in life than the look on a childs face that has just reeled in there first fish, and to them it just doesn’t matter if it’s a 3 inch blue gill or a 50 inch muskie.

A book called “Fishing with my grandpa and me” I do not know the author though. Call your local bookstore and I am sure they can find it!

Ok didi a little looking around. found 3 that may intrest you. Just Fishing With Grandpa, by Gina Mayer.
Gus and Grandpa Go Fishing(Gus and Grandpa), By Claudia Mills, and Cathrine Stock.
Fishing With Grandaddy B,by Tony Pennington, and Jennifer Emery.

There are also tons of other books at Amazon.com that pertain to father son fishing that you could tell your son about, or for others reading this. What better way to get a child excited about reading and fishing at the same time.
All books I just listed are also avalible on the Amazon.com store. Thanks for reminding me of the memories of seeing the exitement of fishing with a child. Its beenn to long a winter cant wait to take them out again.

I don’t have a book idea for you. But I see you already got him his first rod and reel. When my grandson was born I brought him a perch shad rap. Kind of a welcome to the family gift. Now everytime I visit I bring him a different crankbait. He’s one and a half. By the time he’s old enough to go in the boat with grandpa he’ll be better equiped than me.

    Thank you Gentlemen.

RiverRat 420 I tried Amozon and couldn’t find anything, but glad you did.I will be looking at getting the ones you and carpking mentioned. Thanks again guys.

SteveO tahnkjs for the compliment about Matt, hearing things liek that makes Berni and I as proud as we can be.

I really like the idea of a bait or two a visit. It won’t cost me that much as we live in Illinois and the kids live in Shakopee. But you can bet we will be trying to get there once a month…more time to fish…that is if Matt can pull me away for the baby.I guess I should start out with a gift pack of B-fish-N tackle. What do you think Mr.Holst?? I will have to hide it from the new daddy.

I will let you all know when the blessed event happens.

    Thanks again
