I would like to get some general feedback on the use of snapweights and whether anglers use them for rigs, shallow cranks, or both. I’ve read through the “Trolling Bible” on the 50/50 method and would like to complement that with some additional information.

    Thanks-

I have used them with good succes. lead core is what the majority of anglers use these days to replace what snap weights accomplish but it is still an effective presentation I like to use electrical clips with gasket material it provides a little bigger and easier item to use

For deep water trolling, I use 1, and 2 oz. snap weights. I typically start at 50/50, but will vary to 25/75 depending on the lure I am using, and depth of water. Lead core is nice for certain applications, but when I am running boards, snap weights are the way to go.

    I agree totally Tuck.
I have used snap weights for years, and feel it gives me a little(well a lot) more control of where I put my baits. Start out with the 50/50..this will give you an exact measure of where your bait is. As Tuck said, then play with it, you can get those baits to run right where you want them. The PTM is the bible for the troller, use it to put the cranks right where you want them. Leadcore, in my opinion, is an iffy proposition for where the bait runs. It is so speed sensitive that on rough days, with lots of chop, and the boat speed varies, so does your bait, up and down, up and down. I know there are those that will argue with that, but I have found snaps work better for me. All of this is my opinion, “and thats all I have to say about that” Forest Gump…….
