Just a quick question, i hope someone may answer it ?? Today i saw a guy fishing in a spot that i thought and knew was a place to catch walleyes, but i discovered that he was catching crappies, big ones too. All of the people fish crappies in 40+FOW and they are catching mostly small ones, but where i was it was only 18- 20 FOW they were mostly all bigger? I was wondering if the crappies are schooling up or was this just a fluke catching them here? Because the bite lasted from 5:15 until 6:00 and then it was like someone shut them off ??? Before 5:00 all we caught were perch. Anways i wound up with 9 crappies the biggest being 11 inches and one walleye being 14 inches .

Well hope all have a good Super Bowl Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deep water is a common area to find winter crappies. But they can suspend and school up almost any place they find ideal conditions. Thats a good example of finding fish were you normally would overlook. Was this particular area a point?

With the time of the day you said you caught them I would think they were coming shallower to feed during low light. Drill some holes and look for them suspended at about the same depths, but in deeper water during the day.

    Ive been to Moose Lake.

Islands could also be considered main lake points. One of my favorite crappie lakes next to Mille lacs gets alot of pressure on the deep holes but the points see little pressure. Its at these points in 18 feet of water where the fish stack up and bite good early in the morning until about noon. Some of your best fishing will come on areas that go overlooked.
