Wisconsin question

I’m hoping someone can save me some time in sorting through a million websites and recommend a lake in Wisconsin that would be good to go for a week of family vacation fishing this coming summer. Basically, we’re looking for good numbers of fish so family can be happy, and at least some walleye so I can be happy. We’re looking for a week in a cabin (run of the mill resort). Anyone have any favorites?

    Thanks a “million”,
    Andy

My personal favorite….Lake Owen, Drummond, WI.! I think its the most beautiful and clear lake I have ever seen and it has good numbers of smallmouth, walleye and panfish too!

I love Bone Lake near Luck WI. It has great muskies and bass and huge numbers of sunnies, crappies, and perch to keep the kiddies involved. The best part about it is there is very little recreational boat traffic.

I would have to agree with Gator on this as well. I went camping at bone lake last year and had a great time. There were plenty of panfish for a nice shore lunch and plenty of bass to keep the morning and evening fishing fun. The only complaint I would have is to make sure there isn’t a muskie tournament the same weekend becuase that adds a lot of boat traffic. The weekend we were there was the same weekend as a tourny. Still caught plenty of fish, but just a lot of boats running around…

I like upper st. croix lake in solon springs. Lots of crappies, gils, and walleyes(though they run just under 15 for the most part and u can only keep 2) Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass common as well.

hayward has lake nelson. nice lake walleyes and panfish, but some tourists. the rice lake area has some great lakes to fish as well, and not as far to drive. lake onalaska has panfish, cabins on brice’s prairie, troll for walleyes on the river, but some boat traffic. all depends on how far you want to drive.

I’d agree with fish4blue, Rice Lake area is a personal favorite of mine, specifically Birch Lake, lots of structure, walleye and it’s the sunfish capital of WI.
    Just my .02 worth.

    Chippewa Flowage

Crappies, walleyes, musky, pike, smallies, and largies. Several resorts and camping islands too. Bring a spare prop if you are staying for a week because it is a big piece of water and there are not any boueys marking the hazards. Get a hot spots map and pay attention to the little red stars!!!

I’d have to agree with Pete Yake about the Chippewa Flowage. It is one of the best and most versatile fisheries in the state, with good fishing for a variety of species. It has some good resorts to choose from, so you should be able to find one that fits you. You might want to find info. on where good spots for your walleye fishing are before you choose a resort, because you might not want to drive a long way to get to a good spot in the maze of islands and it is also a 15,000 acre lake.

Thanks for all the good tips guys! I’ll be looking into several of them and hopefully reporting some great fishing from one this summer! Until then, I’ll be cruising the pools on the Mississippi and snags on the Rock closer to home (Quad Cities area). Believe it or not, I don’t think I’ll be “traveling” for walleye this year, as most of the big fish I caught last year were local, not Canadian. i.e. much cheaper to find!!
