As SlopBass said in another post the floor in the Clam 2000 cracks easily. My 2000 bit it after the short fishing season we have had already. I gave Clam Corp a call and they told me to cut out the logo’s on my unit and send them in to the company and they would ship me a 2004-2005 model…..no charge of course. So this post is just a heads up to anyone else including Slop that may have had problems with their Clam….GREAT SERVICE!!!
(I just hope they follow through with what they told me or I’ll have a shack with a cracked floor AND extra ventilation… )

I have the exact same model and experienced the same thing. the parts that you can remove to fish through, the mounts break very easily. Only mine is now 3 years old. I don’t know if they would extend the same courtesy for an older one. I had problems the first year too. I love the little shack every other way though. light, don’t need a heater as the area inside is small enought to heat with body heat. I think I will give them a mail though and see what they say.

I have the same thing, but mine is 2 years old. Do you think they would give me the same deal? Mine cracked where the bucket holders are in the floor and the plastic cracked around the holes, most likely just from dragging it on the ice and normal use. Also, have they made any improvements in the new models, because I havent saw them in stores since I bought mine? Let us know if you get a new one sent to you.

C&R- What year was your Clam? Is your Logo on the door unlike the new Clam 2000 that have it on the side according to their site…http://www.the-clam.com/2000.html

I have the same problem. Mine was bought new in Nov.’03 I think (I bought it slightly used) Let us know if you get a new one, I don’t want extra holes in it!! I’ll check it out to see if they will cover mine.

    Thanks! and let us know!!

I purchased my Clam in Jan ’04. When I talked to one of Clam’s representitives he told me that they were aware that there was a problem with a batch of their shacks and the resin coated poly floors.

    Hey CatchnRelease,

I owe you a beer pal. Clam is standing by their equipment in my case too. I will certainly buy another Clam model when it is time if I can expect a great product or a replacement. Wow. The power of IDA rears its head again.

So after you cut the logos off does that mean you have a used shack with some holes for sale??

Good to hear you got it! I ended up putting windows where my logos were. Came out REAL nice, I like it more this way. How’s the new model compare to the old one???

The new shack looks exactly the same as the old one but it came in a different box. I would assume the material composition of the floor is better but theres no way to visually tell. I also made windows out of the holes on the old one. I bought some camouflage mesh fabric and purple replacement Otter canvas from Fleet Farm and some velcro from Wally-World then sat down in front of my girlfriends sewing machine for hours of work. (gotta give credit to Tmusky for the mesh idea) It looks sweet but can only use it if I drive to my fishing spot since the shack fills with snow by the broken plastic and makes the pull exhausting from the pieces dragging against the packed snow.

I used some light flexible plastic for my windows and then made a pull down blind for them. I also made this sled to haul my CLAM works excellent. Also don’t have to worry about wearing out the bottom when towing it with a sled. Here’s a few pics. It is real light and works well. I used a spade bit to make holes to take away some weight and so I can rope my stuff down securly.

I just read this post and i am exstatic right now! i have a clam 2000 and my dad was mighty pissed at me when i snapped off the hole covers, and burned a nice hole in the bottom of the sled This is great news that they stand by their product! i can’t wait to see what they say to me…how long did it take for you guys to get your clams back? hopefully they cover me, but not sure if i like the new dome style clams or not. One more thing, are they just replacing the floor, or do they give you a new deal? i am assuming that they just put a new floor on it and have you keep the old canvas. why do they make you cut the logos out anyway? either way, im syked.

they make you cut the logos out
#1 to prove that you had that shack
#2 so you can’t use the old one unless your going to be a little chilly!!

yes i realize it would be for proof of owning the shack, but i was mostly confused if you send your shack in and they repair it, or if you actually get to keep the old one and get an old one. From what i have interpreted, you get to keep the old one. But i wanted to clarify this for my curiosity.
Also, if they have that good of service, im sure that they aren’t trying to make their paying and loyal customers cold. I will be tricking out my old one myself if this goes through for me. Nothing wrong with having two clams!

Ya from the sounds of it you just keep the old one and then they send you a new one. If you want help customizing i would be glad to help

Last year at this time they were just asking you to cut out the logos from each door and send them in as mentioned in previous posts. In a week or two you should get a brand new one delivered to your door, and you keep the old one!

Guys, I sure hope they are still honoring that deal ! Call them and see what they say!

I fixed up the old one, as others have done, by making the holes into windows similar to the velcro windows already on the shack.

Hmmm…I bought a Clam 2000 new last February, and so far I have had no problems with it. If it was a bad batch of material from 2003, I probably don’t have to worry about it. Good to know if I do have problems, though.

yep they just emailed me back and they are giving me a brand new shack as well! i can’t wait to get my new shack, and i wonder if it will be the new ’06 style with the dome roof? i don’t care, im getting a fresh new shanty with no cracks, rips holes or broken ice hole doors! ill get a couple pics of some of the problems on my shanty. The floor material really is cheap stuff, but otherwise the shacks are nice. I cringe when i step into the shanty and hear that “CRUNCH” I’m sure other clam owners are firmiliar with it. Thanks guys!
