I’m not sure when the special will be starting, but rumor has it that they will be closing out all of Galyan’s inventory…

I think it’s more than just a rumor. On another fishing website (I know, shame on me…. ), two guys report great deals on Garmin GPS, Genz ice rods, ice jis, Galyans brand rods, tackle, jigheads, etc. Fish houses and Vex’s are apparently 10% off.

I was just going to post this. I was talking to my neighbor last night, her hubby is an ops manager at a local galyans. Dicks definitely isn’t into hunting and fishing, so they will likely clearance that side of the stores. She mentioned they had some really good sales right now.

I’m betting Gander is loving this news.

Was at Galyans today. Not impressed with the sales. The stuff is already high priced and with the 10% off it’s still higher than Gander. Very Very few items were 50% off. And not much of a selection. But then again, the
electronics and guns they only make a 10% margin so they can’t go down too much. Still too high, though.

Kooty take a look at dick’s web site they are into hunting and fishing. Get your facts straight before you post. Its been a few days since I gave you a hard time, at least I didnt mention that other thing again .

I was at galyans Fri. and today if you were there on fri. you probally got alot better selection to choose from. The berkley Ice fishing rods were 50% off down to 15.00 gander is still selling them for 30.00. The galyans rods (I like the Im8’s) are all 50% off All ice fishing stuff is 20% off I think. Just have to shop and no your prices.

If I were to guess and this is just a guess, dicks bought the name and will be changing it but the inventory will be sold. Dick’s will get nothing but an empty building. Look for closeing sales soon.

I have only been to one Dick’s store, the new one in Madison and I think their selction for fishing stuff was very poor, just my opinion. I don’t know what any of the other ones are like.

Hi guys…..talking about getting your info straight stick…wasn’t it you telling me all Dicks did was hunting and fishing????

I called Galyans last week and according to the fishing dept this is nothing more than a holiday sale with discounts on everything(most of which is over priced)…that might be all the info they have though at this point. I asked about sales getting better and what the guy said was “we are not closing the doors, just going to be changing names.”
I can see liquidating the Galyans brand stuff but if Dicks is into the same equipment which means what is on Galyan’s shelves is now part of their inventory I don’t see why they need to clearance stuff.
That is the info I got from the horses mouth….so to speak…might be right might be what the Galyan’s employees were told so they didn’t just bail.

I’ve never been to a Dick’s store, but according to the neighbor, they are more like a sportmart. If that is the case, I don’t consider them a sporting goods store. Just because you carry 5 raps, 3 spools of line, and 6 snoopy poles doesn’t make you a sporting goods store, it makes you Target.

At any rate, I hope they keep the fishing/hunting departments, while I consider most of their stuff over-priced, I still like the competition to keep other stores in check.

the dicks here in davenport, though no cabelas, does have a pretty good assortment of tackle, lures and fishing/hunting equipment. Zoom, rapala, yamamoto, booyah, strike king, bandit to name a few. Again, im not saying its the greatest sporting goods store but it does have a decent selection and fair pricing comparable to cabelas/bps/etc
