Yep…… I was watching NBC when the news broke. I agree that it was for the good of the country that this not come down to litigation like it did in 2000.
The consensus is that moral issues “creamed the democrats” (quoting Dee Dee Myers) in the popular vote. Her recommendation to the the Dem. party is that in 2008, they’re going to have to come closer to center.
I had a feeling that if anything would win it for President Bush……. it was his tie with the social issues.
Now that it’s all over…….. let’s get back to being neighbors and “cross party” fishing trips!!!
ditto regarding moral and social issues. State man-woman marriage amendment additions to State Constitutions passed by large margins in eleven states and Bush won ten of those.
I do think if George Bush had communicated with the American Public to a greater extent then he did after 9/11 this election would have never even been close.
For those of you that chose to vote for Bush congrats, from a Kerry supporter. I agree with Stilakid lets get back to being neighbors and cross party fishing. The worst is over and I hope we can all hide the dark sides of ourselves for at least 4 years.
I think, which I know is dangerous, that if Bush never invaded Iraq, and just kept going as he was before that time, today we would be discussing one of the biggest landslide victories ever in a presidential race.
It was refreshing to see how the country rallied to get out to vote. No matter which side you voted for, we are, as we were yesterday, all Americans. Thus, better than the rest of the world.
Ditto on the cross-party fishing. I hear so much about the country being divided that it really boosts my spirits to see the country coming together first right here in “Fly-over-country”. I’m glad this only happens every 4 years. I am dragging today as I was up well past 2am watching the talking heads. It was worth it though and I am very happy with the results. We have a very unique and wonderful political system here in this great country. I know that much of the rest of the world can’t begin to understand it. Kudos to everyone of you that execised your right to vote yesterday no matter which candidate you voted for!
This is truly Bush Country…this is a map of counties (in red)won by “W”. It’s striking that this election was even close. It’s scary that a few over populated liberal cities could possibly elect a candidate that is so far removed from mainstreen America and he / she would govern our actions.
