Bought a new Alumacraft 165 Magnum CS last year with a Honda 75. Really love the motor, quiet, fuel efficient and alot of power. Just curious as to what people thought of other motors and comparing them, not saying Honda is the best motor, but I really like it. Any comments on other outboards out there that are worth their value.

I put a 2004 75hp Yamaha 4-stroke on my new Explorer this spring. That’s by far the biggest motor I’ve ever had. I am so happy with it, thus far. My father, FIL, and brother each have Mercury’s. All are 30hp and 50hp. They are two-stroke and ya know what, they all run great. Sure, I don’t have to put oil in mine all the time, I don’t use much gas, and it’s much quieter than theirs, but they didn’t pay what I paid either. My buddy has a 30hp Honda, and that thing is whisper quiet, and runs great. Earlier this season, I took a ride with a guy that had a 130 Honda that was so loud.

Last year I bought a Suzuki 70 HP 4 stroke tiller and I have been very pleased. It is quiet, starts easily, very fuel efficient and trolls nicely. I went with Suzuki because it is fuel injected and it was less expensive than the Yamaha or Mercury.

My old boat had a Honda 75, my new one a Yamaha F75.

The tiller is set up better on the Yamaha, better adjustment to reduce arm fatigue. It has a little more mid range and top end power. I had to take it back because the carbs were out of sink. It also has a slight squeel some where in the motor. It sounds like a belt slipping. That will have to get taken care of too. Overall I’m pleased with it.

That being said I think the honda was quiter and more fuel efficiant. In 5 years of use I never had a problem with it.

I liked the reliability of my Honda. I miss the quiet smoothness of it.

Two years ago I got a 70 hp Johnson (Suzuki) tiller and so far am pleased with it. I wanted fuel injection for my style of fishing — instant starts to go after hung lines when drifting on the river. I also fish all winter and didn’t want to fuss with any carbs in cold weather. I like the long handle and position of the shift lever on the Suzuki.

All these 4 stroke motors better be good as we pay a ridiculous high price for them.
