Found out I have a blown engine today. 96 90 HP Johnson repairs from my mechanic estimated at $2500. Need some help from my friends at IDA.com Should I buy a new engine, a used one, repair my present motor. Input from all would be appreciated! This bites… wait all year for fall fishing and then this happens. Chacago

What is the cost of a replacement motor? What is the warranty on a new vs a repaired motor? Personally if the budget allowed, I’d go for new unless you plan to trade the boat off anytime soon. Even then, maybe you could keep the new motor and only trade the boat?? Good luck in your decision!!

    $2500???

I would shop for a new motor………….You could probably find a newer 90hp for the same money that hasn’t been blown………

I use to bend wrenches………Other may disagree with what I’m going to say, but oh well…….

Blown or rebuilt motors NEVER run the same as to what the original factory built. There are good stories out there, where somebody probably had good luck on a rebuild, but I can guarentee that there are 10 bad stories to every good one when it comes to rebuilt motors. They never are as good as to what the factory built.

I would never put 50% or 75% of the value into a blown motor.

If you shop around, you should be able to pick up a good 2 stroke 90 for the $3k to $4k range………
