205 mph speeding ticket

My cousin is a state trooper for MN.
Last summer, he joined us at LOTW and we got to talking about his time on the force (20 years).
His worse day was:
A man in his mid-50s was pulled over in St. Paul for speeding, up to and exceeding 100mph. When he was caught and issued the ticket, he wrote on the ticket: “next time, you won’t catch me.”
2 weeks later, a call came over the radio of a bike speeding. My cousing picked up the pursuit. He chased the guy down Concord ave in St. Paul, reaching a top speed of 127mph. The guy turned into a residential area and my cousin was on his tail. The guy took a turn down a street and found himself in a cul-de-sac. The guy did a quick stop and my cousing locked up the brakes to avoid hitting him. My cousin’s car passenger mirror hit the bikes left handle bar at a speed of 11 mph. It knocked the guy off the bike and he hit his head on the curb……….He wasn’t wearing a helmet. The light fall against the curb hit him by the temple, killing him………..
The guy was a 54 year old successful business man, with a family………..He died.
The only reason they could figure for his running was avoiding another ticket……….
September 23, 2004 at 6:33 pm #322274With 30 years as an EMT and paramedic I have seen the aftermath of countless wrecks involving donorcycles. At least the kid got caught before an inevitable tragedy. Any moe lives saved will just be a bonus–not to mention the horrors emergency personnel won’t need to store in their psyches for a long, long time
September 26, 2004 at 11:50 pm #322501talking about how dumb it is to speed on these bikes is fine and agree could save someones life but just coming out and saying hey did you hear about the bike that met up with the hay wagon is a [censored] thing to say.
September 27, 2004 at 1:26 pm #322529I was a part time cop in Hastings and also an EMTI. I have assited in many bike mishaps. Too many to post here. The next get together maybe. It is just not worth it. I sold both of mine about 15 years ago. I’ll stick with 4 wheels. It wasn’t because of me, it was everyone else out there!
TuckSeptember 27, 2004 at 1:53 pm #322530I have seen to many also. Sold my bikes 18 years ago after someone cut me off and I ended up in the ditch doing 60 on a V65 honda magna vf1100c. Thankfully I had been riding motocross all my life or otherwise I might not be here now. I agree with Eye-Guide it is because of the other drivers that I sold my bikes.
September 27, 2004 at 7:44 pm #322593I almost got T-boned 2x in the same week about a month ago. Should I stop driving my Blazer? I don’t feel any safer on 4 wheels than I do 2. If I have any reaction time at all, I’ll know what I need to do 99.9% of the time. I can’t worry about the other guys……. I’d never leave home.
If the other guys have that big of an impact on the road, it’s time for off road riding! When the legs can’t take it anymore, I’ll submit to strictly ATV’s but for now, bikes rule!
One day…… me and Grand Tetons! Oh yeah!!!!
