I have seen these American White Pelicans flying in the past, but today I was able to drift within 30 yards of them. What an amazing bird they are. When they finally flew off they looked like a B-52 taking off. These were on Lake Koskonong in Southern Wisconsin.
You should see them up on Waubay. There is some water on both sides of the highway, there must be a lot of baitfish there. They are always feeding right along the road. I never remember the camera when I’m out there. It’s pretty cool watching a bird of that size dive bombing a school of minnows!!
There’s been large flocks of them in the backwaters of P3 all summer. I fish by where they roost and there’s usually so many I can’t count them. Nice to see.
There are usually lots of them on the fox river near DePere
