    Derek..

The best players make plays even when they are doubled, blitzed, triple covered etc….If Moss can catch a ball in-between 3 guys, why can’t Hovan make some moves and make a tackle at least?

This has nothing to do w/the VIKS, but Hovan isn’t a good player. Never has been. Look up his stats…they don’t lie. He can talk the talk, but that’s about it…

AND, if you watched the entire game, even Mike Tice mentioned it during that little exert<sp?> they did. He pointed Hovan out as not “living up to the expectations”.

I’m not sure we can compare WR’s to Linemen. I didnt catch what Tice said. John Randle had the same problem when the league figured out he was good. He got doubled and tripled and his stats went to hell. Hovan doesnt have speed but atleast hes drawing more people to him to open it up for “other players” to “live up to expectations”

I think Tice needs to borrow something from the Lombardi Book of Football. “Gentlemen, …….. THIS……. is a football.”

Get back to the basics of this game so we can stop seeing these little mistakes cost us wins! Daunte now has the honorable title of the most fumbling quarterback of all time! ALL TIME! It’s a good thing he can run to pad that stat but for crying out loud, no other QB could get away with that! I say we play the second stringer for a year and make Daunte our RB. Fumbling RB’s don’t stay employed for long either! Ask A. Green why he was traded to Green Bay for next to nothing. The guy learned to hang on to the ball or be unemployed!

Hovan should still get SOMETHING on his stat sheet…. Randle did. Hovan may draw attention but he needs to give us reason of why he does. John Randle used to get featured alot and somewhere in nearly every game you’d hear, “That’s why you gotta double team John Randle”. He’d make a big play or provide a steady, irritable stream of close calls while putting pressure on that QB. There’s no real comparison between Randle and most pass rushers, he was that good…. and Hovan needs to discover that “Good to Great” thing.

I don’t know why but the Vikes record against Philly has never been good and last night makes a 1-5 record for the last 6 match ups. We could’ve had that game, and we should’ve had that game, but it’s just those “little things” that were beating the snot out of ’em. And yeah, some bad play calling by the officials too.

Any body else laugh themselves silly when that ref had to explain McNabb wasn’t an eligible receiver because he wasn’t ever in the shotgun position? I don’t know if he’s a stutterer or if he just didn’t know how to explain it but all I could think of was those “Want to get away?” commercials!!! I was almost in tears! I did feel bad for him……. but it was funny! If I’d a been that guy, I woulda started laughin’ on national television!

I’ve got a great audio file but it’s 380KB so can’t add it to a post this size. Anybody have thoughts??

The play that comes to mind, is the McNabb touchdown run. Hovan at first had 2 blockers. One dropped off, and Hovan tried a swim move to the left. The blocker got his helmet in Hovan’s side, and drove him a good 5 yds away, and it opened up a HUGE hole that McNabb couldn’t resist. Basically, Hovan put himself in a position that he had no leverage left. I could have pushed him away in that position. Okay, maybe not, but I’m trying to make a point. On a couple of other plays, he didn’t look like he was going full out after the ball. He looked tired. I have always been a huge Hovan fan, I liked his attitude. You put his stats up, he’s not in the elite tackle group, but he does match up with someone like Cledius (sp?) Hunt from the packers. I just wasn’t impressed with the effort Monday night.
