I was thinking about heading out to the back channel around the goose lake/Dead slough area this weekend. If I can still get a boat in there. Just wondering if any of these areas are any good for smallies? Any tips?

I’d look more for the largies in those areas. I have caught a few smallies from the WI channel but they were ‘accidents’ more than anything. Lots of largemouth though.

Thanks for the info. Where about would I want to go. I can catch the largemouths anytime. I may also head up to the Diamond bluff area. I am not looking for any exact locations, just general areas. Thanks in advance

Man if you want to catch smallies get down on the south end of Lake Pepin and work towards Wabasha. I would choose the south end over pool 3 or the north end of Pepin in a heart beat if I was after smallies. Check out Reefrunners last report for word on that bite with the smallies. When he says it’s hot… it’s HOT.

I fished the wabasha wingdams on Monday afternoon…The smallies were feeding like mad on the wingdams. They were loving the chartreuse pepper ringworm on an 1/8 oz jig!

absoultely nothing!!! And thats the truth….(for me anyway)! No pre-tourney BS here! They were nowhere to be found for me. Guess I’ll wait to catch them on the 12th. Those of you that haven’t signed up yet and want to get into a “fun” tournament. The next In-Depthangling.com walleye tournament will be on Sept. 12th. It’s a fun time had by all. Check out the thread under the tournament board for more info.
