The fishing TV shows that I like all have a few things in common. 1. Only show one segment per half hour show. I hate it when a show starts with walleye fishing, then bass, and maybe some deep sea fishing to finish it off. The segments are just too short. 2. Fish lakes that are close to your viewing area. I don’t expect the name of the lake they are on, but I like to see the same structure and environment as the places I fish. 3. Air the shows at the same time of year that they were filmed. I don’t remember things for too long, so I like it if I can see a technique and then use it the following weekend. 4. I like to see local celebs on the shows too. I don’t need a talk show, but it is nice to see the lighter side of some higher profile people.
Hope some of this helps

I think the best show I ever watched was Schooled with Denny Brauer. Basically, some amatuer fishes a body of water for a day and then Denny spends the first half of the show watching footage and discussing what he thinks the guy did right and what he did wrong. The second half, Denny goes out and fishes the same water and demonstrates some of the things that he was talking about during the critique segment.
The main thing that I liked about this show was that you saw a ‘real guy’ who makes a lot of the same mistakes that you or I would, and you get to hear input about what he could have done better. Just watching a pro like Denny fish isn’t nearly as helful to me, since he’s basically doing a lot of things right already (boat control, positioning, presentation, selection, etc), and all you really see is the payoff. When he’s watching the footage, you’ll hear him talk about things like that a lot, “He really needs to move the boat in closer to the cover,” or “This bank looks good, but now that I’m here I can see that the drop is just too steep and it won’t hold good fish.”
Dont show underwater shots as it takes forever to get camera setup and stresses the fish while doing so. Give the show a personal touch by including local people with whom you fish. Looking forward to seeing the show, good luck!
Personally, I like to watch the techniques, the theories on how and why they are fishing where they are, talk of seasonal or daily patterns. Basically, don’t have one of those shows that only shows people catching and landing fish. I like to see what goes on before the bite, and then the fish in the boat.
Bob @ Simplyfishing has the best show.
He muskie fishes.
Why is his show the best…………
He talks about the weather and its current pattern.
He gives time of the year.
He gives water temp.
He gives you the info of what type of structure he is fishing.
He discusses his lure choice, with why.
He puts this info into action for 30 minutes………..
When he is done, you know what he did, why he did it, where he did it, how he did it……….
Case closed…………
Thanks for the ideas…I really liked some of them and will have to change a few things. We are supposed to record this wed.
What network will this be on, could you post a scheudle here for everyone?
