Got some new U-joints on the F-150 but I can’t get to the grease fittings with the standard or right angle coupler. Bumper to Bumper or NAPA couldn’t help. Probably a simple answer to this eh? Any ideas? Thanks.

I ussually have to get the truck on a level surface, put the tranny in nuetral, and rotate the drive shaft by hand to get the fitting into position where I can get it with the grease gun. It’s easier if you jack up the rear off the ground but not neccesary.

Dirk, You might try a grease gun with thin wall coupling. More years ago then I care to remember, I had an International Scout that was more than difficult to grease and the local dealer kept several of these couplings on the shelf for his shop and to sell to customers. They worked. Good luck

I had a Ford once and couldn’t get the grease gun on the zert .I was told the U-joint was put in backwards. There is a thing think it’s called a pencil atachment that goes onto the end of your grease gun,the tip narrows down to the size of the little ball that is on your grease zert and ya just keep preasure on it and pump the grease. You can get that atachmend at any auto parts store.Good luck!

They are standard hydraulic zerts. The problem is that I can’t get the coupler over the fitting because the u-joint is in the way. The rear one I can barely get over the fitting and get grease into it. Not the front one though. I think a needle point coupler is what I need????

The needle point coupler will probably get the job done, but in the past when I’ve used them it was pretty messy. You think you’re on good, turns out you’re not, etc.

Have you tried jacking on the frame until the tires are off the ground? If you can change the driveshaft angle, you might be able to rotate it until you can get on.

The needle point coupler needs to be on a solid tube type extender from the gun. This way you can get good pressure on the fitting. It would be really difficult to use on a hose type extender from the gun.

My 83 f150 has got a zerk like that. I’ve got one of those need nose things but I use a sprocket nose grease gun for the tip of a chain saw bar. The one I’ve got is metal and you hold it in one hand and pump with your thumb…

I was just at TSC ( Tractor Supply) in Rochester and found a grease gun tip that is called a “right angle tip”. The tip slides onto the zerk fitting from the side rather than straight on. I have some tough ones on my Tahoe so thought it was worth $5 to try this new gizzmo. I’ll let you know if it works.
