Mille Lacs – Who’s eating who?

    I think in the rush to find a scapegoat in the walleye decline on Mille Lacs, smallmouth got the brunt. Some people I know very familiar with the lake and local DNR will say that crappie eat walleye fry 10:1 over smallmouth. Their comments about the smallmouth are consistent with the attached article. Smallmouth focus on crayfish, crayfish and crayfish before they would eat a walleye fry..

    Such an interesting read. Definitely worth the time to take a look at. I’m very curious to see what conclusions they come up with, especially with such a dynamic system. Hopefully something happens before a world class Smallie fishery is also destroyed, and I don’t even like bass!
