I have a 2004 ford explorer with 170,000 and the v6. Last week the dash ligjt/fog light fuse popped a few times. Now the power mirrors, interior door locks and other things are not working. Also the key chime goes off even with the door closed. Arw there any known issues with this year explorer? Im thinking a grounding issues butnot sure.

A buddy of mine had this same thing happen to his Explorer. It was in and out of the shop a half dozen times, and once they fixed one electrical problem, another popped up. The only thing that took care of it was selling the truck

231,000 on ours, the dome light was staying on, killing our battery. Spraying the latch in the door fixed it.
I did have to replace my headlight switch about 50k ago. Been a good truck other than that.

What are the other things that are not working/working when they shouldn’t. Could be a lot of different things from what you have said

I ran 2 Ford Explorers into the ground. This brings back memories, although I don’t think I had this particular issue.

This site was my go to place for mechanical questions.

    Serious Explorations

Much like an old Explorer, the site isn’t pretty, but it is a great resource. You can refine the search, but keep the “http://www.explorerforum.com/” part at the end of the search field.

half of the stuff sounds like a broken wire/wires in the drivers door harnass….between the door and the body there should be a rubber boot over the harnass. Take a peek in there…
