i’ve seen the indepth outdoors episode where they are catching walleye in mid summer using leadcore on mille lacs. sure looks like fun. i purchased 2 leadcore rods this spring so i’m pretty new to this style of fishing. was thinking of maybe coming up to mille lacs this summer with my dad to give it a try. do you guy know when this bite starts/ends? does anyone have any advice on what mud flats to fish out there? i’ve got a lakemaster chip but i realize this is big water, any help on honing in on a location or a specific area would be appreciated. Thanks!

Whichever one you want!!
Seriously, any of the flats hold fish and the basin areas between them do also. Take a cruise and graph around until you see enough that look fishable and whip around, drop em in and relax.June 10, 2014 at 8:50 am #1415186Quote:

The leadcore bite is very very close to taking off on Mille Lacs Andy. I spent a lot of time (too much actually) looking for eyes in the basin and on mud flats pulling both leadcore and planer boards for last weekend’s AIM tournament.
In my experience the mid-lake crankbait bite really starts to take off when the surface temps hit about 65 degrees. After a week of stable weather we found 68 degree water on Friday and had 4 fish over 25″ including a 28 1/4″ hoss in the open basin… However a cold front came through Friday night dropping the temps back down to 60-62 degrees on Saturday and Sunday respectively and killed the crankbait bite which left us scrambling for tournament day. I’d say with a solid week of warm weather it should be starting to get good by next weekend and for sure in 2 weeks
I will be posting a report later in the week once I get caught up with yardwork.

X2 I would highly recommend Brad Juaire as well, he showed me a lot on leadcore and even talked me thru how to set them up when I was having difficulty at home.
