Is the Eyecon a step up from the avid rods?

Avid is second to the Legend series.

I had some gift cards to spend and I had my mind made up on the avid. Right before opener i went to get it they didnt have the avid i wanted so I went with the eyecon. I dont have a ton of time on it but I dont really like it as much as I was hoping.

    Thx for the responses
Think I might have to look at the Legend Tournament series
Not the $350 rods but the lower $ 200 series

Anybody have any experience with this level of the Legend Tournament series?

Legend Tournaments are nice rods but I personally do not like the grips on the new style. Imo Avids are the best combination of value and performance.

Those rods are nice but I switch over to Limit Creek rods a number of years ago. IMO those are the best bang for the buck.

I have one of the Legend Tournament – Good sensitivity, but if its money that you don’t want to spend then there are other rods out there that might be better. PS I really like mine though but I don’t go cheap on my fishing equipment I guess.

The new handle takes some time to get used to. I personally don’t like it. Cork is much nicer like on an Avid.

For that kinda of money there are a lot of options out there.

I saw a Fenwick Aestos last weekend for the first time and fell in love. I’m not sure I really need a another $179 rod but if I do, that’s it. And I’m starting to think I do.

I have a few Legend Tournaments and like them. I am really starting to fall in love with the Brand 13 Envy series. The actions are great, they have recoil guides, and are extremely lightweight. I’m not sure on the exact weights but when I use one for half the day and switch back to an avid, the avid feels like a log in comparison.

Are you saying LC is better than the Legends or the other way around?

Limit creeks are nice for their cost (~$90) but their guides are a little cheap and the cork is somewhat low quality compared to the cork on st. croix rods that are at least avid and up. But again the st. croixs will run you at least $180 for avid and 220+ for legend tourneys and 350+ for the xtremes.

I also went to Limit Creeks a few years ago (I now have six of them). I think they have equal performance and “toughness” as a St. Croix, at half the price. I know some hard core muskie guys that have had the handles of the St.C break under the strain of fighting a big ‘ski. Personally, I’ve landed 30# Flats with a ML LC and put all the pressure I could on ’em without a break. IMO- Limit Creek.
