The Wife and I have taken our 3 kids on the Crane Lake housboat trip twice now . We always have had a great time and have always had great friendly service from the crew there. We are looking to try the Rainy Lake trip this time for a change of scenery . Has anyone done both trips or have an opinion either way ? Im thinking the fishing might be a tad better on Rainy as well so that is part of our decision making process. We go in the middle of July and the walley bite has been tough both trips and I would love to get the kids on some Rainiy lake Crappies. Any and all opinions welcome.

I’ve gone through Rainy Lake Houseboats and had good luck, although that was in May so I can’t speak to the mid-summer fishing. I can speak to the owners character as he helped my dad and his group navigate their houseboat through some ice last week to get out to their spot.

I say give rainy a try.. fishing can be great but like any other lake it can be a tough go at times! mid july look for your walleyes along the weed edges and rock points with weeds on rainy.. gold lindy spinners hammered gold seems to be our go to up there in july along or just inside the weed edge..

I would go rainy over crane but thats me.. either one would be a hoot of a trip..

    good luck

I’ve done both and really enjoyed both. Personally I prefer Rainy Lake.
