Has anyone ever pulled an old boat out of a barn and brought her back to life?

Now that my little ones are getting to the age that they can come along – wife does not want them falling in off the side of the bass boat. So, the tiller is coming back….

I am taking my 89 Pro V out of the barn and think I am going to need to:

    Pull fuel tank
    Clean all 3 carbs
    Get some new batteries
    Wash
    Wax
    New Electronics –

I would like to put some older Lowrance stuff on her as I don’t need the latest and greatest..

    Thoughts?

    Also –

Need to register trailer with MN – apparently – after 7 years of no registry, they fall off the system.

    This will be fun.

    I would also add;
    Check all thru hull fittings
Check and clean electrical connections (one of the weakest links in boat systems)
    Rodent damage?

    Good luck, sounds like fun!

If the aluminum is oxidized bad, most auto part stores have some very good products for cleaning.

I would definitely flush out any old gas and minimum a little carb cleaner.

All my girls have ever known is fishing from a bass boat. In fact they think “tall wall boats” are weird. I’ve had them out since being in diapers, so truly thats all they know. Set the rules, enforce them, and make sure they learn to respect being in a boat. That’s how they learn

Don’t neglect the trailer. Jack it up and check axel and bearings lights and rollers and bunks. Also winch.

I would also pre-lube the cylinders, one of the biggest mistakes is people turn over a dry motor.

    Change lower unit lube.

Watch water pump for proper “peeing”.

New water pump, grease everything on motor, check all wiring for rodent activity. Wash & wax my boat also.

My pro sport wasnt quite as ‘in the barn’ as I suspect youes may be, but I mostly d id as you described. Previous owner used it maybe once or twice a year for the last 5 years. First order was new tires on trailer, (could see radial on the old ones), then new bearings, replaced lights and wiring on trailer. Boat I removed the 12 year old fish finder, new blige pump with automatic float, new livewell pump, cleaned up the wiring mess under the console, terrovs on a quick release up front, 60 amp breaker, 2 bank charger for trolling batteries, new trolling batteries, 788 up front, 1199 at the console, second base at the console for the 788 (to run full screen side scan/sonar on big unit and map on small one), networked the units together, hull cleaner and a wash and wax and a good carpet cleaning. On the motor I left to someone who knew more than I, maj8r items were 2 rebuilt fuel pumps, new water pump and impellor, change of all fluids.

If I have a space to work on it this winter I may recarpet it. Also want to add a true recirculating livewell system.
