Travelling for work about a dozen times a year… usually pretty boring, dull, etc. Never have enough time to do anything fun, see any sites, wet any lines… but every once in a while, there is a plesant surprise.
Been in Ohio all week. This morning, I get up and head down for breakfast. A fellow gets into the elevator with me and rides down. He looks vaguely familiar. Head for the hotel lobby for breakfast. All tables full, so I sit up next to this guy at the hotel bar. He is on the phone sitting quitely.. and then starts talking about poker as if he were doing an interview. Well, in fact, that was exactly what he was doing. Then I realized who he was.
As I said… most travel is boring. But sitting and shooting the bull with the 2003 World Series of Poker winner, Chris Moneymaker, was quite cool. Many people have opinions on his poker play. But he is really a down to earth guy. We talked for about 20 minutes… and not all about him or poker. He was in town for the Hollywood Casino poker tourny… acting as Ambassador.
I guess you just never know how a boring old business trip will turn out.
