Cottonwoods

I was just out filling Oriole feeders and noticed a few pieces of fluff that looked an awful lot like Cottonwood fluff. I sure as heck can’t remember having to deal with that mess this early.

The Orioles like those lofty trees for nest building so the trees and birds go hand-in-hand I guess but it would be nice to see the wind blow that fluff in someone else’s garage.

I saw a few pieces floating around last night while we were eating supper on the patio. I guess it’s nearing that time of year again when you have to occasionally pick it out of your food. And try to sweep the piles gathering in the garage…

Oh I love it when that stuff gets wrapped up in your line.

I also love that my allergies really seem to kick in then the cotton is flying. I don’t think I am allergic to the cotton, just something that blooms at the same time.

I was walking around a lake in Eagan yesterday and there were already piles of the stuff everywhere and a couple areas you could barely see the ground beneath it.

Many years ago the cotton was over two inches thick a long our chainlink fench. Like the dummy I can be some times, I lit a match and through it on the cotton, it was like throwing a match on gas, before I realized. The fire travel the lenth of the fench and was out. Won’t do that again.

Ha, yeah I have lit the stuff before and it is dangerous unless you have a choke out point surrounding it.

A little extra fiber is good for a person.

I say it every year when cottonwoods come up, but small cats love cottonwood fluff.

I have seen carp in the shallows just gorging themselves on the stuff. Dozens and dozens of carp mouths all over the surface.

I fail to understand why anyone would allow these glorified weeds live on their lot in an urban environment.

There’s nothing like getting it all woven right into braid! What a pain!
