Hey guys and gals,
My name is Tyler Huerter and I had previously posted on this forum asking for feedback on a project that I have been working on. For those who may be unfamiliar with the project, it is named Fish Tales and we are working to try to get people in need in the Olmsted County area to learn the sport of fishing. We plan to do this by collecting unneeded fishing rods/reels and misc. equipment, combining the donated equipment into starter kits, and distributing them during a Learn-to Fish events over the summer.
I have now been able to partner with Lutheran Social Services, which means that all money donated will be tax-deductible. They will also help with finding those who could most benefit from our project. We are planning our first event for June 7th (Take-a-Kid Fishing Weekend). This event will be geared towards families with children and we hope to have around 20 participants. We will be hosting it and a yet undetermined reservoir in the Rochester area.
As of now we have been able to collect close to 40 rods and reels in varying condition, mostly thanks to a generous donation from Tom (former owner of Hooked on Fishing). We have also raised enough money to purchase the materials for 16 starter kits.
I just wanted to check in, as I know some of you had expressed interest in the project when I brought it up previously and I wanted to provide an update. If anyone is interested in donating, please check out our Facebook page:
