I am heading to Erie on Saturday and this will be my first time there with my boat. does anyone on here have a Humminbird chip for Erie that I could borrow for a week? I hope to be able to pay with a couple walleyes or case of beer. I just don’t want to have to buy a chip for a possibly one time trip. Thanks

Buy the chip, you will be back!

Check out the Navionics phone app. I believe you can box an area and download the map to your phone so you don’t have to be worried about data/cell coverage. 10-20 in the app store on my iPhone so it may be more cost effective than the chip. Plus that will have all your local lakes on it as well.

Which Humminbird unit do you have? My 998 at the time I was out there had a really good map built into it without a chip. Check it out by zooming out a ways and scrolling over where you think you’ll fish. Zoom back in and see how it looks.

Can’t help with your question as I’m all Lowrance but will throw this out.
I returned about 2 weeks ago.
Niagra Reef was by far the hot spot as far as the jig bite was going. We were always able to find clean water there. everywhere from 6′ to 15′ was producing at that time.
Trolling was best for us E NE starting just outside of “C” can. We’d start there and then head for islands.

DDHJ 12’s way out produced any of the reef runners we used.
All fish caught trolling were 27″ and up.
At that time it was from 35′ to 65′ back of boards.

Don’t be afraid to maybe try some jigs with a stinger tipped with crawlers. Have fun and please report upon your return. Wish I was going back!!!

I have an 1198, I’ll check out the map on it tonight. I heard yesterday that the crawler harness bite is just taking off, this is our plan. We are staying on Kelley Island and plan to fish just north of there.

I zoomed into Lake Erie and there is no detail at all there. If I zoom in to 200ft it is all blocky and terrible Guess I need a chip.

Interesting. Guess I’ll have to check my locators in the morning. I have only Lakemaster MN and WI chips so I don’t think it would be on one of those.
