Hi all, I am new to the site. Currently going to school in Thunder Bay, but am originally from the west metro area. Anyway, I have my boat up here now and was looking to take it out on Lake Superior to chase some of those giant lakers. I currently have no downriggers on the boat so I was looking for some general pointers about how to troll using leadcore. Things like speed, where to look this time of year etc. Anything different about fighting a fish on leadcore? I have been a walleye chaser most of my life so anything on the lakers will be appreciated!

    Thanks

The lakers should stay high up in the water column this year given the ice. Our lead core rigs have 7 colors and we let out up to a couple hundred feet depending on where we mark fish and what baits we are running. For us between .9 and 1.5 mph works well. We will run up to 2.0 if the fish agree to it and the lures handle the extra speed.

Thanks for the tips! I am going to try to get out this weekend possibly. Still some ice on the main part of Thunder Bay. Should I target some shallower warmer bays??
