If they take a quarterback with the #8 pick (any quarterback) will it……………..

    1) Be a good thing?

    2) Just another wasted pick?

BTW, Jeff……they haven’t traded Peterson yet.

    I have a feeling it won’t be a QB.

I don’t think they should draft one just for the sake of getting one.

There’s no doubt they need one though, but who?

If Im the vikings im trading back into the 15-20 range to take Bridgewater or Bortles. From what I have seen, both Bridgewater and Bortles would be a stretch at 8. They’ve got several needs so stock piling some picks while taking a solid QB a little later in the draft is the right thing to do.

I wouldn’t have a problem with them taking a QB. If you don’t ever draft one,you won’t ever get your franchise QB.

I agree that they probably won’t. PA let it slip that they didn’t want him to start a chant for Locker (I think) in 2011 at the draft party and they seem to have directed him again this year towards getting the fans up for a defensive pick so unless they trade down (and even then), that’s what I see them taking this year.

Regardless, it will be fun to see what happens tonight!

IF Aaron Donald is there at 8, they have 2 choices. Trade down…probably with Dallas and get the extra picks. Then take QB/CB/SS/whatever at #16. Or take Donald at #8.

I can see them trading around quite a bit to get some extra picks and maybe trading back late in the 1st to get a QB.

I hope they trade back and get some more picks. There’s a ton of talent in the later rounds to be had, just gotta pick the right ones. I’m hoping Zimmy can Get R Done !

Think we almost certainly will trade down IF Manziel is on the board at 8. Likely to Dallas.

It’s fun to speculate just to see how close you can get to what really happens.

My sense is that the orientation of the Vikings coaches and staff is toward defense, so that’s the way they are going to lean in the early rounds.

So that’s my way of saying, “no” to a QB at #8. This Vikings coach and staff don’t believe that the franchise QB is the key, so they won’t use their first pick to get one.

IMO, that’s a major mistake. There are two things about the QBs that will go in the early rounds that should make them a priority. 1. You have to have the QBs in the draft. Not every year sees this much potential and 2. You have to be in a position to get them. If there’s only 1-2 top shelf QB prospects in the draft and you’re picking in the bottom third of the order or later…

I’ll just lay it out there. My prediction is that Johnny Football will be lamented by Vikings fans for years to come as the one who got away. The Vikes could likely have him, but they won’t take him, and instead he’ll go on to become the QB that could have been.

The memories of drafting Ponder in the first round are too fresh for Spielman to risk taking another QB early in the first round. By the sounds of it, most teams are looking to move down in the draft instead of up. That may limit the queens options to find a team willing to give up much to move up.

I soooo hope you are wrong. But I can see it happening. I’m still not sold on Zimmer’s comment about JF. Is it a smoke screen? Hmmm, game playing, could be…

I personally would love to see the Vikes draft Johnny football because as a Packers fan I would love seeing the Vikes and Johnny Football on the schedule twice a year. I think he’s is going to be an absolute flop. Maybe he will prove me wrong, I just don’t see him panning out on the next level.

If he doesn’t head to the Vikes I am really really really cheering for him to go to Dallas, that would be hilarious watching the Romo,Jones,Garrett,Manziel saga unfold in the future. They might honestly make a reality show out of it, probably would get some fantastic ratings.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the Pack get a crack at either Pryor or Dix at safety or Moseley at LB but I don’t think any of those 3 make it to 21. They might be in the perfect position to trade down and stockpile picks again the Thompson way if the QB’s slip near the end of the first round.

Yep… I would love to see the Vikes pick up Donald. A lot of the mocks have them taking a linebacker and that’s good and all but I wonder why Donald is not on anybody’s radar as an option for the vikings? It’s pretty obvious with everything that happened in free agency that Zimmer is building the defense from the line out like he did in Cincinnati. I think if you compliment Floyd with a guy like Donald, Rogers and the boys will be hearing footsteps all the time. The secondary was addressed a bit in free agency and I am super excited to see what Rhodes can do next season. He really came around and is a beast when it comes to press coverage. I think with the right crew up front stuffing the run and putting pressure on the QB you allow a guy like Rhodes to get in the grill of Megatron and Marshall you have something cooking…

It you look at the NFL draft mocks right now, all five of the “experts” are picking the Vikings to take Aaron Donald.

Guess he made the radar !

The experts are Prisco, Rang, Brugler, Kirwin and Brinson.

I don’t think they had any correct last year tho !!

    Some experts….

Actually, 2 have them trading down to the “Boys” now…and the Boys taking him.

Really? That’s awesome! I haven’t seen any for a couple weeks. After watching his highlight reel it’s unbelievable. QB option? What do most people do try to pick one and take ’em out. What does Donald do? Takes them both down.

With the eighth pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings select……..Peter Mortell, Punter, Minnesota Gophers.

Logic of this is that the punter will be the most important position on the team in 2014, especially out in the snow!

I’d vote to draft Mack at 8 if he’s still there, and move down if he’s not. I’d rather have the impact player on defense for this team. We need a LB to go with Greenway, having a healthy Safety in Smith along with last years 1st rounders at CB and DT, and new DE from the Giants, we need a LB!!!!!!!!

This team won 10 games two years ago with Ponder and a good D and running game. We just need to put the D back together, and tell Cassell or Ponder not to turn it over. No rookie QB is going to come in and take this team to 10 wins! No way!

Defense, defense, defense now that we play outdoors!!

The speculation is fun and I admit I’m excited and will be paying attention. The QB position is probably the most hit or miss in the entire process. Hopefully they get it right!

I’d try to move UP to take Mack, he’s a difference maker, I seriously doubt you can say that from the 3rd/4th rounder it would take to move up a few spots and grab him…The QB’s this year are too much of a gamble to take 1st round, if this draft had a Luck or RG3 in it, then yes, you do what you can to take talent like that. Next years draft has 4-5 QB studs lined up already…

I would take a raw, 3rd round UCLA lb so Dave can fish all fall.

I like the pick. From the guys I talked to who know this stuff, they loved Barr.
