Does anyone make an inflatable PFD for children? I am looking for a 2yo.
I searched on line a bit and was unable to find one.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to put inflatables on kids. It’s kind of like airbags in cars. You’re better off just using a child’s life vest.

    Hi,
It is illegal for anyone under the age of 16 (Coast Guard? and/or MN) to use a PFD.

    That’s what I understand.

^^ what he said. They aren’t Coast Guard approved for anyone under 16.

Can anyone tell me if this is this a Federal or State regulation?

    Thanks,

    It’s both.

The Coast Guard is the certifying body of lifesaving equipment that is recognized by the states.

And the states are the ones that have the laws that require life vests and other safety gear. Which all that I’m aware of, specify that the life vests must be certified by the USCG.

So if the USCG won’t certify it, it doesn’t fulfill the legal requirement called for by the state.

My father got into a bit of trouble. He used to keep an old ski belt (anyone else remember those?) in his boat as a throwable. What he did’t realized is that while a ski belt floats, they never have been USCG approved. So, that little mistake cost him $30.

Sure! You can still buy them.

Thanks for the replies, I thought there may be a legal reason you cant find them.
