For the birds

I mentioned the weather to the little lady last night as being something else and she said it was for the birds. Apparently some of the birds don’t like it either. As I was standing in front of the garage door during a brief interlude in rain squalls, this Ruby-Crowned Kinglet decided the top of my head was a good landing pad. I saw the little guy coming from the side and stood there thinking it was going to rest on the eave of the garage, but it sat down on my head instead. After a couple minutes I thought I’d move it along and when it flew off it went over to a stack of waiting-to-be-needed tomato cages and took refuge there. I walked over to where it was and the little guy looked like he’d been thru hell with the wind so I took a chance and got the camera. He was still there when I returned with it so I got a nice shot and left the poor bird to rest.

The rain isn’t all that bad and we can probably use it in small doses like what we’ve been getting but this damned wind can leave any time now.

Nice pic Tom. At least you weren’t wearing the ugly fishing hat. That would scare every bird in the County. I had an orange crowned warbler smack the window and sit on the deck for about 45 min to regain his senses. Never thought to take a pic cuz I was looking up info on what it was.

Had a couple fly through last week. The only reason I noticed is because it was morning and the sun hit the “crown” when he’d lean forward and the wind blew the tuft of hair. They are a tiny bird.

On a side note, saw a pair of white throated sparrows too the other day. I like the white capped and white throated sparrows when they migrate through. Unfortunately where we live now I don’t think will attract as many or hold them for any amount of time.
