New Yamaha in the shop

I was looking over the boat yesterday and found oil on the cavitation plate. With only about 12 hours on the motor I just about lost it. On further inspection it turned out to be the lift cylinder on the trim and tilt. The mechanic told me that the seal on top of the cylinder was blown out. He said he’s never seen this happen in a motor this new. On the positive side it will only be out of commission for a week.

My dad has his new yammi in and is replacing the lower unit due to a bad upper bearing. Bullet proof Yamaha…..

I love the motor so far but I was extremely disappointed to see that oil. As long as they get fixed right all will be good. It’s a huge improvement over my last motor which was a 1992 Johnson vro.

I loved my Yamaha F150, but I guess it really is true any motor can break at any time

    EVEN A YAMMI

If that’s the case why does everybody bash the big Evinrude E-tec’s (225 and up) they seem to have a bad reputation for blowing power heads

1.) Is it because their are just many more of them out there that you’re bound to hear more problems?

2.) Is it the bass guys helping to give them a bad name cause they always go balls to the wall every where they go

I’ve talked to several well known and trusted technicians and they informed me that there was one or two bad years, where they had some issues, but unfortunately you never hear about all the positive experiences people have

I was talking to a marine mechanic that told me the new Yamaha vmax 4 stroke motors are coming back to the shop with the cranks worn out at 350 hours. Yamaha is replacing them with a new powerhead, but he didn’t know if they have fixed the issue, or if the replacement powerhead is going to grenade in 350 hours too. Just passing some info I was told. My old school Yamaha 225 4 stroke was flawless, just a turd out of the hole
