After his press conference regarding returning to Mankato he was ask about a future lawsuit. He said he wasn’t that type of person to which his lawyer said “I am” so I’m sure it’s not over yet.

I feel horrible for the guy and his family. Regardless of the final outcome, they drug him through the mud for something that most fathers have probably done. I played against his teams when he coached at UW-Eau Claire, and I feel bad for him. It’s tough to imagine going back to a school that treated you like that.

Totally agree. It is shameful is that the leadership at MSU who conspired to convict him in the media because of their misguided view that that was the route to save their own skins, have emerged from this scandal without paying ANY personal price for their failures.

I can understand that universities in the post-Penn State era have a rightly elevated awareness of handling allegations of sexual abuse.

But that DOES NOT justify killing the accused by pushing him in front of a moving (media) train.

Anyone with an ounce of honor and self respect would resign as at least a token effort at an apology for what they did to this coach. The fact that the “evidence” of abuse didn’t even pass the most basic test of “Is it abuse?” should make a strong case for termination of all the MSU higher ups who conducted this witch hunt.

I cannot see how he could ever return.

It sounds like he’s getting full backpay so I’d go back just for that.

Also what are the chances his new contract has something in it that pays out the rest of the contract if he leaves or gets fired.

This guy may have just won the lottery after going through 2 years of hell.

I can’t imagine an amount of money that would compensate my wife and kids for having to endure something like that.

Think I would of told them if you dont want to play thats fine. We will find other that do. Nothing like arguing with a bunch of teenagers that think they know something.

I’m guessing there is “the rest of the story” coming up. It just doesn’t pass the smell test as is.

The past coach involved a circus atmosphere, the currant guy recruited some of them and provided security for them. Nothing unusual about how they feel. In fact I would have been more concerned had they turned their backs on the currant coach.

The rest of the story is they had less losses in the past 2 years combined than Todd Hofners last season may just explain it…

Well, I have been to Minot. And you’re right. It’s no Mankato. I’ve heard some refer to it as “The Mankato of the North”, but I don’t see it myself.

Minot kind of reminded me of some towns in Siberia. But without the nice weather and low winds, obviously.

I don’t blame the players for not wanting the upheaval and disruption of a coach merry-go-round. It is also very right that they suspect the reinstatement isn’t the end, but rather the beginning of a lawsuit war between the reinstated coach and his foes up in the Admin Ivory Tower.

The kids are victims of the university leadership’s incompetence here too. The whole program has been thrown into upheaval. A lot of those players were recruited by the interim coach and it’s natural that they want to play for him.

Yes the new coach was successful, but so was the old. Yes, the new coach recruited the new players. I think the kids look like boneheads and they are learning an important life lesson. You don’t get everything you want, especially if you throw a tantrum.

My guess is the new coach was probably more of a buddy and the old one worked them harder, if I know how teenagers and young adults think. Or perhaps some fear retribution for turning on the old coach?

Yes, I understand that is all pure speculation, but I’d personally bet on that before I would bet that the other shoe is going to drop for this coach.

i see the players side i really do. and to be honest, i think if they handle this right, they’ll go through unscathed in the end. 1 practice protesting, fine. display your displeasure but go back to business.

i think they are wrongfully being accused of doing this because the old coach was accused of child pornography by some outlets.

i think many had moved on and don’t want the circus to role back into town. its understandable.

we had a guy move into a development manager role. through no fault of his own, he was moved out of that position because of other circumstances. he would now be once again a perfect fit for that job but we know because of the fabric of our workplace, that can’t happen. i liken this to that situation. While its what he deserves, i think its best all parties just move on and MSU just get out that big ole checkbook.

if the players go past 1 or two sit outs, bye bye.

actually ALL of the upperclassmen that are likely the leaders of this team were recruited by Hoffman. Not the interim coach.

the kids can be upset, rightfully so. but this team is NOT their’s.

there is a lot of talent on this team and they’ll be successfull either way.

I personally feel really bad for Hoffman, regardless if he is a “hardass”.

Not that I disagree with your overall premise.

I dont think anyone in this thread would have taken those videos let alone with a work provided cell phone.

A one-minute video created on June 26 showed the three children, one boy and two girls, with their backs to the camera and covered by towels, the complaint said. They drop the towels and turn toward the camera, exposing themselves. The boy allegedly fondles himself and the girls allegedly bend over and expose their anuses to the camera.

A much shorter video showed the girls dancing naked before the boy enters wearing only a football helmet, according to the complaint. The third video, about two minutes long, allegedly shows one of girls being woken at night by a male and told to go to the bathroom. After the girl gets up, the camera focuses in on the back side of her underwear, the complaint said.

my wife has deleted so many ridiculous naked time videos with our children that it will make your head spin. children just like to be naked. and for some reason a camera in the vicinity exacerbates it. probably poor judgement to put it on a work phone but does that deserve this?

I wasn’t being critical of him being a hard [censored] and I don’t even know if he was. That was all me just throwing stuff out there without any knowledge of anything.

Personally, when I was in sports I preferred coaches who were hardasses that pushed us and disciplined us.

The judge didn’t find them salacious and dismissed the charges. A person can spin things one way or the other so simply in written word.

I am curious about the university employee who went into the phone and found them and the circumstances around that.

I am not saying it is right or ok to use a company phone for personal use, especially if it is specifically conveyed it is not intended for personal use. I think the expectation is unreasonable.

Heck, I was told that our work computers were not for personal browsing of the internet, yet everyone in the office does it every day.

I didn’t mean to come down on you about the “hard___” comment. I was thinking the same exact thing as you in terms of his coaching style. I personally had yellers all through my playing sports days and they all really cared about thier players and me. i responded well to it.

I apologize for referring to him as coach “Hoffman”, his name is Hoffner.

I really don’t think it’s appropriate to speculate on the contents of the videos that were at the center of this case.

No one outside of MSU officials, lawyers, and court employees have seen the alleged videos. By court order, both descriptions of their contents and the videos themselves are sealed.

I get that reports of the alleged contents of the videos have been circulated in the media, but these cannot be verified as being accurate.

I don’t think it’s fair or appropriate to re-hash this as a way of people trying to form their own judgments because no one outside of the parties I named above has the information by which they could do this.
