Wow, I suppose if you have the money…..why not! It’s not the rod that makes the fisherman, however.

Have 2 NRX’s and although it’s alot of money for a fishing rod, I don’t ever see myself going back to anything else I like them that much.

When the wind is blowing hard and the fish are finicky, the extra sensitivity of a high end rod is an absolute must when trying to feel for a bite. I spend money where it’s necessary and there are situations where a lesser rod just isnt going to get it done.

Whew! I like to fish, but that’s a little rich for my blood. If you have that kind of disposable income to spend on fishing, more power to you.

If your trying to make a living fishing, makes sense to me. If you just like high quality things and can afford it, makes sense to me. If you have purchased it just to show off and don’t really plan on using it to it’s fullest potential, makes no sense to me. Our oppinions mean nothing as long as you can justify the purchase.

I did a pair of St. Croix from Joes. They were to much money but I did land a fistful of gift cards in the deal. I dealt with Dawn at Joes after I got the sales pitch over at the St. Croix booth.

I don’t know how they compare to your Loomis but they will work for me.

Check with me at the end of the year and I’ll let you know how they stack up to the hype.

The price compared to Cabelas is certainly good. It’s like anything else, if you like and can afford it, go for it. I can’t wait to hear how they fish. GOOD FOR YOU

I’d say you got a pretty good deal on those rods, 35-40% off of retail for each rod is always a good deal. Granted they do fetch well into the $500 margin, but nothing beats the added sensitivity you gain when fishing with a high quality graphite rod. Let us know how you like them

I’m curious if you will notice a big difference between the Avid and Legend series. Please report back when you get a chance to use these.

Also, what application will they serve? I have a 6’9″ ml xf that I love for jigging!

Worst thing about the NRX rods, is the really good rods you now own, will become something you do not look forward to using. Maybe you’ll have some GLX’s for sale cheap soon?

They are nice rods, fished with a friends NRX’s a couple times in his boat. But I have not justified the purchase yet myself.

Whats the advantage of these rods for an average fisherman (non tourney)? If they are for super finesse bites, that makes sense. But how many of these fish do you plan to catch each year, that you would not catch with a lesser quality rod? 20? $500 (retail price) for 20 bonus fish a year isn’t exactly worth it to me.

But its your money, spend it how you wish!

Congratulations on your purchase. I have been using the IMX rods for probably 15 years. Everyone thought I was nuts for spending $250 back then. Worth every penny.

For those of you who have never used a top quality rod, you have no idea on the increased sensitivity on these.

Fellow members post about their new $60,000 boats, $2000 trolling motors, $3000 electronics, yet no one ever asks them why did you spend all that money!

Hi quality rods are just as important as Spot Lock, DI, SI, etc. Take a valium and let the guy be happy with his purchase.

Advantage of a high end rod is it is lighter, higher performance and usually better built.

I put this way for people.

Every year say you spend $100 on a combo from Fleet Farm to find that it just does not work for what you want, why not buy a high end rod.

High end rods are $200-500 and in my opinion are worth it. You only buy one every few years and enjoy fishing a lot more with it.

I have been on bites with friends and out fished them 5:1 and the only difference is the rod. We are fairly equal as far as skills go.

Yes that is a good buy! I used to hate on expensive rods too until I legitimately fished with one.

I agree. There’s no rod I enjoy fishing with more than my St. Croix Legend Elite. And yes, I realize this rod is supposedly not as good as the NRX. Maybe someday I’ll buy an NRX also.

There could be a lot of reasons for this and many of them have nothing to do with the rod. Not saying it isn’t the rod either but I’ve personally out-fished tons of people of equal ability using great rods with nothing more than a St. Croix Avid.

I’m in no way trying to knock these high end rods. Personally, I love them and have every intention of buying a few more in the future.

But some of the stuff I see and sports shows is (in my opinion) complete nonsense.
Like the salesman who has a fisherman hold the rod to his throat so he can feel the vibrations from said salesman’s talking.
Certainly a great way to make a sale but I’ve yet to see anyone feel a walleyes throat with the tip of there rod to see if they can feel said walleye talking.
Sorry! But for me, there’s no correlation between catching a fish on the end of my line and touching a fishing pole to a sales mans throat.

For me, the real advantage of these rods is not just there sensitivity, but also how light they are.
Compare how you feel after several long days on the water using one of these high end rods with how you would have felt using a lesser rod.

In my opinion, that’s where you’ll see the value of a great rod!

    Love these rods!
Gloomis isn’t too rich for my blood, but i have a tendancy to break rods or have them fly off the boat. Even if it’s 1 or 2 a year, i prefer to keep my walleye combos less than $250. Gotta love them 76MLXF!!

broke one of my legend extreme rods last fall and they replaced it free of charge. bought it in 2008. high quality with lifetime warranties from quality companies is worth it if you can afford it.

before I decided to upgrade my rods and reels I feel I did a real good job with the $80-$150 rods.

I would be willing to guess that there are a few tackle boxes out there that have a few hundred dollars worth of tackle that has never been wet.

Very well said Joel! I couldn’t agree more with this. Get out and do back-to-back full days of jigging with a quality rod and a lower end and feel how much fatigue you have in your arm. ($$$ has little to do with it since you can get some awesome rods in the $150.00 range)
