Most of us really don’t give a hoot one way or the other.

One can make a very realistic “owl hoot” by blowing into your cupped hands….hard to explain on here but it’s possible that Utube might have a “how to” video….

Just don’t practice late at night at Everts when Steve Hix is up. I’m not sure how good you have to be.

I wish I could do it too. I have an uncle “who” sits around a campfire and gets them started. Quite funny.

goosehunter, try the barred owl call. It’s not that hard to imitate with your natural voice. I’ve been using it very successfully for over 30 years. It’s an 8-9 note call that sounds like you’re saying, “Who cooks for you, who cooks for you-all”. Here’s a link to a website that has several variations of the call: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/barred_owl/sounds You can get creative and mix up the sounds, the gobblers are so tense in the spring that almost any sound will get them to start gobbling. Good luck!!!

Try to mimmic the hoot and with a little practice you’ll get er down. When I first started I sounded like I just came from the dentists office. Most of the sound comes from the back of the mouth by the mollers by rolling the sound, its not that hard to get to the point where it sounds halfway decent. Give er a try, you’ll get it. When I first started practice calling turkeys I had a diaphram call in my pocket everywhere I went, you should have seen some of the looks.
