Why don’t they

I have 2 boats where the decks on the front are not long enough for the poles to lay down flat on.The poles have to lay with the rod tips hanging over the side of the councel. This can get a little hairy when running in rougher water unless you strap them down someway.I was thinking why could’nt you put a tube thru the front of the councel for the rod tips to fit in so there not bouncing around. On my boats(Ranger619 and a skeeter bass boat 1825) there is nothing under the councels in the front of them to interfere with.I am thinking of a tube with a cap on the inside(to keep water out) about 12″ long that the rod tips would fit in.What do you guys think of this idea and, would it work.Lets hear your opinions on it.

Grab a camera, grab a hole saw and cut the hole. Slide a piece of PVC in and let us know how it works. Sounds like you are onto something.

When i fished out of cedar creeks 621 last year i said and thought the same thing. Rod tips had to be angled in between the counsels with the tips unsupported. Wasnt impressed as i run a tiller with ample bow space. Also thru the raised

bow area at the very front was a thought i had to just put the rod butts into

I lost a nice river rig when my rod hung over the side while we moved upriver. When we arrived, it took a bit for it to sink in on the whereabouts of my rod & reel. Bummer! But I am more careful now.

I wrote into ranger with red labs ideas. Maybe next model will have a change. Might figure it out on my own before that.

I went to a West Marine web site and looked up rod holders. They have both plastic(ABS)and stainless three hole flush mount rod holders.Plastics are 8.99 stainless o to 30 degrees 50 to 100 bucks a peace. If you have a angled counsel you might want the 15 or 30 degree to keep the rod tips straight.I think I am going to order a couple of the plastic flush mount ones and try them. Will post some pictures when done.I think this is the way to go then using plastic tubing and will look a lot neater.
