Two Transducers One Unit

I am installing two humminbird units to my Ranger 520. 1198 Si transducer to the trolling motor and 998 Si on the console using two transducers (XHS-9-HDSI-180-T and XNT-9-20 for high speed). If I understand things right, the side imaging ducer should be higher than the high speed ducer. Both would then be connected to the 998 through the Y cable. Thanks for any comments.

Just did this with a 598. Wanted the SI ducer higher to avoid it getting broken.

I dont know if it will work on ranger but on skeeter bass boats I’ve seen them mounted on the jackplate which is well out of harms way and has a clear side view.

What I do is glassed in the regular transducer and installed the SI transducer on the back of the boat but above the bottom of the boat so when it is on plane the SI transducer is not in the water. The Y cable will automatically switch back and forth. I don’t even know that it happens and there is difference in the read out.

You will more than likely want to hang your SI transducer higher than the high speed transducer, but you will want to make sure that its not right above the high speed ducer so that it blocks part of the SI ducer, that can give you a funky reading with the SI ducer. You will want to make sure there isn’t anything else inline with the SI ducer, including the gearcase when the engine is trimmed down.

I’d put one on the left side of your transom and one on the right side. Put the SI on the side of the boat that is recomended per the mounting instructions based on your prop rotation (CW or CCW).

I’d put both of them level with the bottom of the boat, so they both work at high speeds.

Don’t worry about breaking off your SI duecer. Yes, they’re expensive, but what the heck are you going to break it off of that won’t bust off your lower unit?

I’m running the quad beam and SI off my transom and that’s how i do it. Both work at high speed. Both serve their purpose.

Thanks for the info. Great help. Can’t wait for open water now. Hopefully it’s before May.
