I bought a spoolgun early last year and have been having a blast learning to weld aluminum. Yesterday was my second “important” project attempt. I repaired the skeg on my outboard. Here is some pics if interested.

I should be ready now to hit more wingdams!

Nice! And a decent looking weld to boot!

Looks good!!! Alum is very hard to do. Did you have to have a certain gas to run it or is it a flex type.

I think someone may have another part time job if he isn’t careful. Nice job. I know how tough aluminum is to weld.
What brand/model are you using to weld?

    Thanks!
It is a 3035 miller spool gun running off my miller 180. I had to get a pure argon gas tank for alum. It has definitely been a learning process as some of my welds have looked like bird droppings.

Keep those that know how to weld aluminum very close to you.

It’s a tough trade to learn, i gave up trying many years ago.

Just as a FYI, argon welding gas makes a cleaner weld even on stainless and mild steel. Less splatter and smoother bead. For years, that’s all I’ve used. jerr
