So who is tapping trees all ready for maple syrup? Temps looked great around Aiktin mn last weekend. Typical year it would of started last week. Biggest problem so far this year is 2 to 3′ of snow in the woods making it difficult to get around.

Would guess that some of you guys down south are going strong on this right now.

Our neighbor normally has a few trees tapped, but as of this morning, nothing yet.

My friend already has his 30,000 taps in, yes 30 thousand. He puts them in early and has a tubing system with a vacuum pump that he turns on once the sap starts to run.

He makes his living making syrup so he is hoping for another good year.

So I take it you guys eat pancakes quite a bit around your house? Be nice to have a friend like that!

Way too cold. Takes a week or more to get things thawed out–not a couple days here and there. In my 40 plus year old maple-log book, average would be about the 17th when we start. Forecast is not good for that to happen but could be close to the 20th.

Down in Madison I have heard of a few people already putting out taps in, but as for back at home, besides the guys that are using tubing most are going to have to wait quite a while until conditions improve in the woods. I know my dad has been spending time this last week after work in the woods plowing trails for us to get around on. Will probably be another week and a half for us.

IceNutz: My brother is good friends with Mark Sippl and he said when they finally finished tapping this last week none of them could hardly walk anymore they were so tired out. Will be nice to have all of the hard work done already though, now just wait and see hope the weather cooperates.

Yep it’s Mark and Andy that have between 25 and 30,000 taps in.

Had seen a bunch of trees tapped by Milaca today when I drove by. I thought it is a little early yet but maybe it is time.

Cant remember if it was last year or the year before the season ran really late. Seem to remember heading up sturgeon fishing mid april and the guy we fish with from Bemidgi still hadnt tapped his trees yet.
