    I’m buying a woodstove.
I can get a great deal on a Quadrafire double steel plated with nickel trim and legs. It’s the showroom model.

For about $500 more I can get a new Yotul cast iron.

So, cast iron or double plated steel?

    As always…TIA

I never have called people out on spelling and grammar issues. But, in this case, I find it pretty funny. Thanks for the chuckle.

Double steel-firebrick lined, okay, not lined, not so okay. Over firing will burn it out. Cast iron by far the better choice.jerr

Best advice I can give you is start looking on Craigslist for a used one…I picked up a $1,700 Lopi Answer (with Brass trim) in near perfect condition for my cabin that was 10 years old but used sporadically maybe 1 season at the most for $100. The only thing I had to replace were the firebricks; they broke when I had to remove them to transport it.

Now is a great time to look for wood stoves on Craigslist. When I was looking last yr about this time I also saw some great deals on Yotuls as well for a fraction of a new one.

Of course, this assumes you are willing to buy a used stove. You also have to make sure the sides aren’t cracked and the condition is excellent.

In my case, I bought it from a lady who had it in her porch but never used it. It was the previous homeowner who installed it and she was getting tired of looking at it.

First advice is to check with your insurance agent. They may not like having a wood stove installed in your home and may drop you or raise your rates.

It was insured for a stove when built two years ago. Stone work and chimney are in.
I was pretty sure cast iron would be the answer. Think I’ll go with the new yotul.
    Thanks guys!

We put in a Yotul Rockland 550 FP insert about 5-6 years ago and absolutely no complaints. So much more efficient on wood than the open fireplace – I would guess 50% less wood and lots more heat with the sealed combustion and dual blowers. Handles split firewood up to 24 inches in length – that was a big plus too.

    Tell ya what,
I have a used CAST Iron Wood Stove, Brick Lined.
I’ll sell it to ya for $250.
If Interested, PM me and I’ll send ya pics tomorrow.

I’m going to put a gas one in.

Tired of dirt from wood and I’m getting lazy about cutting and chopping wood.
