I’m going to splurge and do a fishing charter in Cancun. We leave tomorrow afternoon. Does anyone have any firsthand experience they’d like to pass along? I like the fact that I was ice fishing yesterday and will be fishing the depths of the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday.

I was not overly impressed with Captain Rick’s.

    Enjoy!

Get a scope patch for sea sickness. Long day out there if you are chumming all day.

Go to the docks in the afternoon when the fishing boats are coming in. See which captain did well. Talk to departing anglers about their experience and price they paid. Then speak directly with the captain about availability and price. It will be less expensive than booking with the salesman on the beach with the photo album.

Check out aqua world. I did some shared charters out of there. The concierge at your hotel can set you up. Reasonable and good fishing.

Ill second this. Bad experience with Captain Ricks. We went with another couple and the captain and first-mate didnt speak much english. What we could understand was “Stay in the front of the boat”

This is 5 star advice. Don’t trust what the guys selling you the charter say they caught… it’s always the same. We killed them yesterday.
