Does anyone know what rod James uses for walleye? And the setup? Reel line?.. I have been walleye fishing for years but have been using g loomis for the last 10 years so looking for a little change

well, James would know, and I’m sure sooner or later he’ll chime in. I’d bet he uses what is promoted: St. Croix rods.
You don’t mention anything other than GLoomis. They’re good rods, but what rod is it? 6ft, 6.5, 7ft??? Could be something to consider. It makes a difference. Do you jig primarily, or pull cranks? Everyone has their favorite for the style they’re using. Stay tuned

depends on which year and what episode and what tactic….

mostly now you will find him using Loomis NRX’s and Ci4’s.

I could be wrong but that is what I have noticed.

You’ll also noticed it probably has a lot to do with pocket book sized and sponsor changes.

I have always known him to only use products that he truely believes in though. no matter what sponsor changes take place.

I am sure James uses Many different rods. Not just his One walleye rod–setup. James does whatever it takes to catch fish (walleye). He will have rods for all situations and presentations he plans to fish. Be it vertical jigging or pitching jigs or cranks. Trolling bait or cranks etc. etc. etc. He will have the rod or rods for the job at hand…rrr

I’ve seen Loomis NRXs, but more of the cork handled St Croix Xtremes. Hoping James chimes in.

I didn’t realize Loomis is offering NRX rods in 01 power..

I want to try this for live bait rigging. I never had a lot of good things to say about my glx hsr9000, especially compared to the St. Croix offerings.

Anyone know what the G designates? Is it just a handle aesthetic? The A and B handle look to be the same, except color?

The G is the green color. B is the unfinished black with blue thread.

To clarify, IDO has never been sponsored by Shimano, G.Loomis, Pflueger or St. Croix nor has their ever been any financial incentive to promote any of the companies listed at any time. Truth be told there’s no checkbook connected to a significant portion of the gear we use and we buy a great deal of our equipment, rods and reels with cash like most everyone else. True, we’ve found ways to get some of this gear at discounts through rep groups and various retailers that offer us pricing at “their pricing” free of any expectations of promotion or advertising. The notion that we’re sent loads of gear to use is so far off the mark I felt it worth commenting.

For example, most would assume IDO is sponsored by Tuned up Customs. Nope. Not true. We’ve never ask for a single dime from them. It is a product I personally believed in, I developed a strong connection with the owners and I wanted to see them be successful. To be honest I feel more like IDO sponsors them. We use products we believe in, and while we most certainly do have sponsors, there’s a great deal of product we talk about or “appear” to promote has no sponsor support of any kind.

I have 2 or 3 rods that I use primarily.

1 – St. Croix Legend Extreme 6’9″ MLXF
2 – St. Croix Legend Extreme 6’8″ MXF
    3 – G.Loomis 6’10” MLXF

#1 and #3 are braid line rods that I use to fish lighter jigs in warmer weather when braid freeze isn’t an issue or when I need to use a no-stretch line to accomplish the presentation. Examples of situations when I’ll need a braid regardless of temps would be when casting light blade baits for river walleye. In that situation I prefer rod #1 over all others.

Rod #2 is my mono rod or any time I need a rod to handle heavier jigs / lures. I rarely fish braid on this rod unless I’m working heavier rip-n-raps. This rod excels when fishing jigs over 1/4 oz. on up to 1/2 oz. and is my rod of choice when casting those aforementioned raps in sizes #6 and #7. It is also the rod I prefer when snap jigging jigging raps in the summer.

Rod #3 is a great rod for making long casts with light jigs and it is a ton of fun to fish with. I should point out that it is a miserable blade rod due to the slower action. Of the three rods this G.Loomis gets the least amount of time in my hands… not because it is a bad rod. I’d call it a fantastic rod. Mostly just because I’m so comfortable with the St. Croix rods and when/how to use them.

Reels are primarily Ci4’s. When fishing braid I’m using Sufix 832. When using mono I’m likely using Sufix Elite in hi-vis when it makes sense, clear when it doesn’t.

    Hope this helps.
