In the Hinkley area, I drove the snowmobile back to the truck to find a DNR officer waiting for me. He asked me if I was the one fishing out in the lone shack. He then asked me if I knew the FL expired on the 28th. I then asked him, what the date was today… He said 3-1. My response, “$%#@^” he laughed and told me to get a new FL in the next couple of days. Nice guy.

When you skip my posts, this is what happens.
It’s funny because I think if you tell anyone who doesn’t know, you’ll have a hard time convincing them. Took me about 10 minutes with my brother. I had to explain that I knew in the last 2 years that there were 2 expiration dates on the license and wording about “expires unless noted elsewhere on the license”.
kidfishPosts: 245March 3, 2014 at 4:18 pm #1393437The past few years, the licenses expired on April 30th. This year, the state went back to Feb 28th. I’m glad I looked the other day, because I would have been fishing illegally too.

Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559March 3, 2014 at 6:23 pm #1393474I am happy to say, the times I’ve dealt with the DNR they generally are fair and professional guys (and gals)that give you a break if it’s a honest error

PB2Posts: 331March 3, 2014 at 7:22 pm #1393494It’s always expired on the 28/29th of Feb they just got rid of the grace period.
I’m personally OK with going back to the old system.
Would you guys prefer maybe a calendar year system, good for 1 year from date of purchase.
Other ideas throw about are Jan 1 expiration. I personally don’t like the Jan 1 idea myself. I think doing it in the middle of ice-fishing with the popularity of hard water would be bad and confusing.timmyPosts: 1960March 3, 2014 at 7:35 pm #1393497Quote:

Personally I think that is the best option out there. As far as confusing, I think it is the simplest answer. A 2013 license would be good for 2013 and a 2014 would be good for 2014. That’s how Ontario is set up, and I never met a guy up there that was confused about it.

March 3, 2014 at 8:28 pm #1392797I like it the way it is now. The last couple years I put it off and almost went fishing without a valid license.
March 4, 2014 at 5:54 am #1393534Hey Mr. Hotspot, welcome to IDo!
If you go under MY HOME and click on the first EDIT on the bottom right hand side, there’s a place holder where members can put in their location.
It helps when answering questions that could be location specific.
